Dear Hill Community,

A reminder that the school is closed until April 6th, 2020. Our first priority is the safety of the Hill Academy staff, students and community. This is an important precaution to ensure the well-being of the Hill community as we continue to implement social distancing.

We are aware that many staff and families have recently returned from travel or are returning from travel. As per the guidelines listed by the Public Health Agency of Canada, we recommend that anyone who has returned to Canada self- isolate for 14 days.

If you think you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or have been in contact with someone who has, we encourage you to complete the online self assessment tool from the Ontario Government website.

Our local, provincial and federal governments are taking extreme actions and we believe that, although challenging, it is important that we do our part as well. The following recommendations for social distancing include the following:
  • Avoiding contact with others
  • Keeping at least six feet apart from other people
  • Staying home and only going out for the absolute essential needs like food and medicine
  • Working from home
  • Encouraging others to stay at home
  • Doing your grocery shopping online or have someone else do it for you if necessary

Through this uncertain and socially isolating time, our aim is provide a regular schedule, consistent communication and interaction to our student-athletes. The student- athletes will be using the Google Classroom platform for both their academic and athletic programs.

As the school closure announcement occurred during the Spring Break holiday, the teachers and coaches will be having professional development on Monday morning. Teachers and coaches will be reaching out to each of their classes and teams on Monday afternoon with the specific expectations for their classes/ teams, designated participation time, and any additional information that specially pertains to their class or team. Please expect an email from your teachers/ coaches on Monday afternoon.

The Hill Academy staff will be accessible via email on Monday- Friday from 9:00am- 3:43pm.

Monday Morning Assembly:
Coach Noble will be running a Monday morning assembly at 9:00am via Instagram Live. All students are expected to tune in to the @thehillacademy1845 instagram account at 9:00am for the weekly message, journal entry and challenge.

EQAO Literacy Test:
The Literacy Test scheduled for March 31, 2020 has been cancelled. Please note that this will  not affect the student's ability to graduate. If a grade 12 student was expecting to write the test as a graduation requirement, that requirement has been waived.

University/College Applications:
The OUAC, Common Apps and Ontario   Colleges.ca  have outlined how they will be monitoring the application status for various institutions and that they will aim to be flexible. They have also indicated that students  must reach out to their individual schools for updates on the application procedures. Please contact   guidance@thehillacademy.com  with questions or for assistance.

Graduation Progress and Ceremony
We currently have no plan to cancel or post-pone the graduation ceremony scheduled for June 19, 2020. We will provide updates as the school year progresses.  Students and families should be comforted by the fact that Ontario is working towards getting all students to graduation. Here at The Hill Academy, we want families to understand that with full participation, our remote learning plan will continue to help student-athletes prepare for the next level.

SAT Prep
Ms. Weiss will be continuing the SAT prep course online through virtual instruction starting Tuesday, March 31st. These online SAT prep classes will be on  Tuesday  evenings from 4:00-5:30pm instead of the usual Wednesday time.
