I n an effort to keep Delaware's medical community current on the latest information regarding the coronavirus crisis, the Medical Society of Delaware is sharing the following:
DPH Announces 176 New Positive Cases / Twelve Additional Deaths

According to the Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH)  176 new Delawareans have been diagnosed with COVID-19, taking the total number of lab-confirmed cases to  6,741, including  276 who are hospitalized,  63 of whom are critically ill.

Two hundred thirty-seven individuals have died due to COVID-19 in Delaware with ages ranging from 22 to 103 years old. Of those who have died, 126 were females and 111 were males. A total of 100 individuals were from New Castle County, 43 were from Kent County, 93 were from Sussex County, and one individual’s county of residence is unknown at this time.

Of today's deaths, five were New Castle County residents, four were Kent County residents, two were Sussex County residents, and one individual’s county of residence is unknown. All 12 of the individuals had underlying health conditions. Seven of the individuals were residents of long-term care facilities.

Latest statistics on positive cases:

  • New Castle County cases: 2,440
  • Kent County cases: 1,060
  • Sussex County cases: 3,205
  • Unknown County: 36
  • Age range: 0 to 103

Two Hundred Tracers to be Hired as Governor Prepares to Reopen State

Governor John Carney announced that the State of Delaware has entered into an agreement with the nonpartisan research institution NORC at the University of Chicago to build Delaware’s statewide contact tracing program to contain COVID-19, limit Delawareans’ exposure to the disease, and restart Delaware’s economy.

NORC also has partnered with the State of Maryland to perform contact tracing. Delaware and Maryland will share information to more effectively monitor COVID-19’s spread across state lines. Approximately 200 Delawareans will be hired as contact tracers and support staff. Read more.
