Dear Friends,

Today County Executive Angela Alsobrooks announced Prince George's County will not move to Phase 3. Instead, we will remain at Phase 2 of the Coronavirus recovery. Learn more about numbers, testing, and guidelines for the County at the COVID-19 dashboard or about the University of Maryland at their 4Maryland reopening site. The next two Virtual Connections forums are the following:

Wednesday, September 23, 12:00 pm - 12:45 pm with Acting Prince George's County Police Chief Hector Velez and Community Oriented Police Officers

Please register today for one or more of these Virtual Connections.

2020 Census

You may have heard the the 2020 Census is ending four weeks early
in the middle of an already-challenging year for the Census.

We know that as many as 40% of our neighbors have NOT been counted. This will affect our community for the next decade -- fewer resources spread among more people.

Please join me to show that in OUR community #EVERYONECOUNTS. Sign up for a 1-hour online training then join my team and me at a food distribution site or elsewhere in the community to get neighbors to fill out the Census on the spot.

We'll be socially-distanced and give you everything you need to be safe and successful. (Ability to speak some Spanish or Middle Eastern languages is especially helpful.) Sign up today. We're almost out of time.

Back to School

Last week, I joined Heart of America at Lamont Elementary School to celebrate the makeover Heart of America completed on the school's library and communications studio. Together with Principal McClain we also distributed distance-learning materials to Lamont students including two books Principal McClain will read virtually with the students this year. We are all excited for students, teachers and staff to enjoy the newly renovated spaces when they eventually return to the school buildings.

I also joined Volunteers of America at Carrollton Elementary to distribute school supplies to students.

Our next partnership with Heart of America will be at Glenn Dale Elementary where we will make improvements to their library and build an outdoor learning area, both of which will be ready whenever students return to the building.

I'm grateful to Heart of America and Prince George's County Public Schools for their support in completing these make-overs, including the prior make-over of the College & Career Center at Parkdale High School last September.

Free Meals for Youth Ages 2-18

Prince George's County Public School meals are now open and FREE to all youth ages 2-18. Meals are distributed every Monday and Wednesday at schools and via school bus at community locations across the County. No ID is required if students go to the meal sites. If an adult picks up meals without a child, they will need to provide the student ID# or recent report card.

Please note, due to the Labor Day holiday, next week meals will be distributed on Tuesday, September 8 and Wednesday, September 9.  They will return the normal Monday/Wednesday schedule the following week.

Learn more and view the list of locations here.

Meals for Seniors and Persons with Disabilities

I'm pleased to partner again with the Prince George's County Department of Family Services to distribution boxes of meals for District 3 Seniors age 60+ on September 16 and September 30.

I am thrilled we are now able to offer these meal boxes to District 3 residents--of any age--who have a disability.

Request your box of meals here.

We are in need of volunteers who can spend approximately 2 hours delivering meals to seniors who are not able to pick up. Sign up here.

The nation's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued an order to STOP residential evictions through December 31, 2020 in an effort to halt the spread of COVID-19.

Every adult listed on the lease, rental agreement, or contract must fill out this form and submit it to their landlord. You must continue to pay rent if you are able. Tenants can still be evicted for issues other than non-payment.

Do you need help with threat of eviction or foreclosure? Contact Housing Initiative Partnership (HIP) at or 301-966-3835.
