To the Fairfax County Community,

Today, Governor Northam announced a temporary stay-at-home order effective immediately through June 10. More on this below.

It is essential that you follow the Governor's order and only leave home when absolutely necessary. If you are with others, you must maintain at least six feet of distance between one another. As I said yesterday, it is everyone's responsibility to flatten the curve and stop this virus. Today however it is no longer just a suggestion to stay home.

Governor's Stay-at-Home order

  • Effective immediately through June 10. Read the Executive Order here.
  • All Virginia residents are directed to remain in their residences except when seeking the following essential services:
  • Getting groceries or medicines. 
  • Caring for a sick family member or friend. 
  • Getting medical care for yourself.
  • Going outside to exercise for yourself or pets. 
  • Getting essential social or government services.
  • Traveling to and from work or place of worship. 
  • Traveling required by court order or to facilitate child custody, visitation, or child care.
  • It also allows for services permitted in last week's Executive Order Fifty-Three (EO 53). Read the FAQ here.
  • All public and private in-person gatherings of more than ten individuals are prohibited with the exceptions of:
  • Businesses not required to close in EO 53.
  • Gatherings of family in the same residence.
  • When not at home, you must maintain at least six feet of space between any other person.
  • Fairfax County will remain open to business from a distance, but will reevaluate other closures to be sure they are in line with the Governor's order.

Board of Supervisors Budget Committee Meeting

  • Tomorrow at 9:30 am the Budget Committee will be discussing how COVID-19 will affect what's remaining of the FY2020 budget and the proposed FY2021 budget.
  • The FY2021 budget that is adopted will look very different from the County Executive's original proposal.

Fairfax County Libraries

  • All libraries are closed until further notice.
  • Starting tomorrow, all library locations will have exterior wireless internet access.
  • Access is in parking lots from 6 am - 10 pm, seven days a week.

Courts

  • The Supreme Court of Virginia has extended its declaration of a judicial emergency through April 26. Read more.
  • Fairfax County Circuit Court and General District Court remain open with amended dockets.
  • The General District Court will not issue new evictions through April 26. Likewise, the Sheriff's Office will not execute pending evictions through April 26. Read more.

  • Is looking for donations of: surgical or N95 masks (any size), face shields/goggles, gowns, disposable gloves, hand sanitizer, and sanitizing wipes.

Health
Common health questions:

  • Not every case of coronavirus has symptoms, but those that do may appear 2-14 days after exposure. Some of the symptoms you might experience are below:
  • Cough
  • Fever
  • Shortness of breath
  • The CDC recommends that only people who have symptoms of COVID-19 wear face masks.
  • Continue to follow the health guidelines:
  • Wash your hands
  • Cough and sneeze into your sleeve
  • Don't touch your face
  • Social distance
  • What it means to social distance, self-isolate, and quarantine.
