Dear Students, Families, Faculty and Staff:

Earlier today, President Mahoney sent an email regarding ESF’s decision to delay the start of the Spring semester by one week to Jan. 24, 2022, in tandem with Syracuse University. We made this decision to ensure the health and safety of the ESF community and because so many of our students utilize the SU campus.

Public health experts are warning the first several weeks of January will be among the most difficult of the COVID case surge occurring now as a result of this quick spread of the omicron variant. As we look ahead to the spring semester, we are fortunate that more than 98% of our College community is vaccinated. We will continue to closely monitor the conditions and remain flexible with our planning.

Spring Semester Schedule

Here are some key dates we have identified for undergraduate, graduate, and Open Academy students:

Jan. 20: New student arrival

Jan. 21: Returning student arrival

Jan. 24: First day of classes

March 13-20: Spring break

May 12: Last day of the semester

We will confirm a May commencement date as soon as possible.

Booster Shots

Please note that Syracuse University requires eligible individuals to receive a booster shot by Jan. 24 in order to use its facilities, including, but not limited to, classrooms, labs, libraries, dining facilities, and recreational facilities.

Pre-Arrival Testing

ESF will require returning students to test for COVID-19 between Jan. 17 and Jan. 28 and demonstrate a negative test. Testing remains available at the SU Stadium for all asymptomatic members of the ESF community. Visit the SU website for the most current hours and testing information.

While the pandemic continues to challenge us, we continue to apply what we’ve learned—and are prepared to take additional necessary steps—to ensure the continued health and safety of the ESF community.

Please visit esf.edu/restart and watch your email for the most current information.

Stay safe and healthy.
