SBA PPP Forgiveness Application
The Small Business Association (SBA) released the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) Loan Forgiveness Application on Friday, May 15. The application, or PPP Loan Forgiveness Calculation Form as it is referred to on the SBA website, is an 11-page PDF file that offers little “narrative-based” guidance. A recently released article in Forbes Magazine offers step-by-step instructions for completing the form. IDA is working with Allen Schiff, CPA, to conduct a follow-up webinar in addition to his “I Got a PPP Loan, Now What?” webinar that is currently available on-demand to IDA members and will have information on this soon.
Article Highlights the Cost of Reopening Dental Offices
The cost of PPE, air filters, and other engineering controls needed to reopen are highlighted in the Cedar Rapids Gazette article, Iowa Dentists Will Spend Thousands to Reopen Under Coronavirus Guidelines .” PPE remains a major concern for dentists.

“I’ve definitely had some sleepless nights worrying about that,” said Dr. Sara Stuefen, an IDA member from Vinton. “Anxiety is pretty high worrying about PPE inventory, which is pretty strange because it’s something we’ve never had to worry about before.”

Articles such as this one help patients understand the changes they can expect to see when they visit the dentist. IDA Immediate Past President Dr. Ryan Stuntz, Farley, also expressed how he is looking forward to returning to practice:  “We’re at a point where we’re seeing more and more emergencies that could have been handled sooner and could have been prevented, which we couldn’t have done before.”
IEDA Survey to Assess the Impact of COVID-19
The Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) is requesting assistance in determining the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in Iowa. They have developed a survey to assess how businesses, including dental offices, are handling the current crisis. The deadline to complete the survey is Friday, May 22 at 5:00 PM.
