While circumstances are very unique and unsettling for all of us this spring, it is important to acknowledge the high impact engagement to which many of our students and faculty commit via original research, project-based learning, performances, internships, and various student activities. Typically, during April and May, a number of campus events highlight these accomplishments. Although we are unable to hold these events this year as we typically do, we are committed to recognizing our community via virtual means.
Thus, we wanted to share with you our plans for a few upcoming celebrations.
The mission of the University of Mount Union is to prepare our students for fulfilling lives, meaningful work, and responsible citizenship. One important way we honor and advance our mission is the annual SCHOLAR Day, our
Student Celebration Honoring Our Latest Academic Research
. The 13
Annual SCHOLAR Day, per a recommendation from the SCHOLAR Day Committee, will occur on Tuesday, April 28, as originally scheduled, to celebrate the students and faculty who wish to share their work with the campus community.
To honor the work of our students, particularly our seniors, it is expected that classes will honor the “no class meetings” approach originally built into the academic calendar for April 28. This will encourage faculty and students to review the work and efforts of our students and their sponsoring faculty. Posters and presentations will be available on the SCHOLAR Day website on April 28. To reduce the stress on everyone, there will not be a “live” component of SCHOLAR Day this year. However, students will be able to invite their family and friends to view their presentations or review their abstracts online. To protect proprietary information, all recorded formal presentations, poster PDFs, and recorded poster presentations will be removed from the website the following day.
SENIOR RECOGNITION AND HONORS CONVOCATION
Also on Tuesday, April 28, the University will host a virtual Honors Convocation to honor this year’s award recipients. An Honors Convocation website will be developed that will list award winners by department within each of the three colleges. In addition, the recipients of the Great Teacher Award and Outstanding Senior Awards, as well as an announcement regarding the Class of 2020 Gift, will be made via video messages.
Keep your eye on your email and on Mount Union’s official social media accounts for more details as SCHOLAR Day and the Senior Recognition and Honors Convocation approach. We hope you will join us virtually on April 28 to celebrate the academic accomplishments of the Mount Union community.
