I n an effort to keep Delaware's medical community current on the latest information regarding the coronavirus crisis, the Medical Society of Delaware is sharing the following:
Telemedicine Reimbursement to Continue

After receiving many calls and emails from concerned physicians and practice managers about the future for telemedicine reimbursement during the COVID-19 pandemic, MSD's Physicians Relations Department tracked down the latest information and updated the MSD Telemedicine Support Guidelines for COVID-19 document to represent that latest information for Delaware's major insurers. Governor Announces Date for "Phase 2" at Weekly Press Conference

With Phase 1 of Delaware's economic reopening underway, Governor Carney announced that Monday, June 15th will be the start of Phase 2. At that point, restaurants, arts and culture venues, convention centers, meeting facilities, and other retailers will be able to double their capacity from 30% to 60%. Childcare access will also be open to all families, not just for children of essential personnel.

Nail salons, barbershops, tattoo parlors and other personal care services will be allowed to open by appointment only and observing strict safety guidelines on June 8th at 30% capacity. Watch press conference.
Governor Carney Creates Pandemic Resurgence Advisory Committee

Governor John Carney signed Executive Order 39, creating a Pandemic Resurgence Advisory Committee (PRAC) to plan for a potentially dangerous resurgence of COVID-19 in fall 2020.

Lieutenant Governor Bethany Hall-Long and Secretary of State Jeff Bullock will co-chair the PRAC, along with the co-chairs of three subcommittees which includes MSD Past President, Nancy Fan, MD as the chair of the Health Subcommitee. MSD President Joseph J. Straight, MD will be representing MSD on the committee. Read more.
DPH Announces 80 New Positive Cases / Five Additional Deaths

According to the Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH)  80 new Delawareans have been diagnosed with COVID-19, taking the total number of lab-confirmed cases to  9,685, including  157 who are hospitalized,  28 of whom are critically ill.

Three hundred seventy-three individuals have died due to COVID-19 in Delaware with ages ranging from 21 to 103 years old.

The most recent deaths ranged in age from 65 to 80. Four of the individuals were Kent County residents, and one was a Sussex County resident. All five individuals had underlying health conditions and two were residents of long-term care facilities.

Latest statistics on positive cases:

  • New Castle County cases: 3,883
  • Kent County cases: 1,450
  • Sussex County cases: 4,299
  • Unknown County: 53
  • Age range: 0 to 103
