I n an effort to keep Delaware's medical community current on the latest information regarding the coronavirus crisis, the Medical Society of Delaware is sharing the following:
Telemedicine Reimbursement to Continue

The Medical Society of Delaware has been advised by Insurance Commissioner Trinidad Navarro that insurance payers are required to continue their current telemedicine coverage as long as Governor Carney keeps the State of Emergency Orders in place. If your practice receives information from an insurance payer advising they are terminating telemedicine coverage, please contact Frank Pyle, Department of Insurance, at [email protected] or Kristie Stewart, MSD Physician Relations at [email protected].
June 1st Marks Big Changes for Delaware

Governor John Carney today announced several changes to his emergency declaration. Starting June 1st, short term rentals will be allowed, mandatory 14-day quarantine for out-of-state travelers will no longer be in effect, and outdoor events of up to 250 people can resume. Attendees of outdoor events will need to wear face coverings and individuals must maintain a social distance of at least six feet from anyone outside of their household. Read more.
Governor Carney Holds Biweekly Press Conference

Delaware Governor John Carney detailed his latest plans for the reopening of the state at his biweekly press conference today. Division of Public Health Director Karyl Rattay, MD answered questions regarding businesses safely reopening during Phase 1, and Director of Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) AJ Schall shared the latest testing efforts, Watch press conference.
DPH Announces 101 New Positive Cases / Four Additional Deaths

According to the Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH)  101 new Delawareans have been diagnosed with COVID-19, taking the total number of lab-confirmed cases to  9,066, including  201 who are hospitalized,  38 of whom are critically ill.

Three hundred thirty-five individuals have died due to COVID-19 in Delaware with ages ranging from 21 to 103 years old.

The most recent deaths ranged in age from 69 to 92. One was a New Castle County resident, one was a Kent County resident, and two were Sussex County residents. Three individuals had underlying health conditions and two were residents of a long-term care facility.

Latest statistics on positive cases:

  • New Castle County cases: 3,508
  • Kent County cases: 1,368
  • Sussex County cases: 4,132
  • Unknown County: 58
  • Age range: 0 to 103

MSD members Michael J. Bradley, DO and Kristine B. Diehl, MD shared their challenges and "new normals" in commentary articles for Delaware State News. Dr. Bradley is a Past President of MSD and the President of MSD's subsidiary, the Medical Network Management Services of Delaware, LLC (MedNet). Dr. Diehl is a member of MSD's Public Health Subcommittee.
