Dear Scouters:

The Piedmont Council appreciates your support and affirmation of our team members and leadership for the efforts to prevent COVID-19. The health and well-being of our Scouts, volunteer leaders, families, and staff continues to remain our number-one priority.

As COVID-19 (coronavirus) and its impact continues to persist, we know we must maintain constant communication with you to address the growing concern by many in our communities.

Additionally, President Trump outlined guidelines put in place by his administration on Monday, which include not congregating in groups over 10 and working from home when possible to help combat coronavirus. We have factored in this recommendation as it pertains to Scouting activities listed below.
We are now in a new phase of prevention and the Piedmont Council is implementing an intensified effort. Please note below significant changes -

UNIT MEETINGS
  • With the closing of the North Carolina public schools, the Piedmont Council recommends that all units suspend meetings and activities until the schools are in session again following a “no school, no Scouts” philosophy.

  • Our staff and volunteer leadership are currently gathering online resources to encourage parents and Scouts to continue working on their advancements while at home. Watch for updates on our website and Facebook page.

  • Camp Card Sales: For the health and well-being of our Scouts, volunteer leaders, and families, the Piedmont Council strongly recommends that all face-to-face, door-to-door, and store front sales be suspended for a period of 30 days effective immediately. We will closely monitor local conditions to determine a sales restart date. Any suspension period for the sale will be added to the scheduled end date. (For example, the current sales end date of May 2, 2020 will be extended to June 2, 2020.)

Also, it's important to note that additional information will be forthcoming to address future meetings and activities for our council and districts. We will be doing so based on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) recommendation to reconsider hosting public events that could put our communities at risk.

We are cognizant of the effect this causes for those involved in these meetings and activities. These are unprecedented and challenging times, to be sure. Every day that we can prevent or delay illness in our communities benefits us greatly, so your cooperation is very much appreciated.
Please continue to wash your hands frequently and practice social distancing. Remember that when it comes to infection prevention, you can have a positive impact through personal decisions that protect others.

As we all know, the information coming to us from state and national public health officials is fluid. We are frequently discussing all options and this plan could change on very short notice.

The Piedmont Council team is here for you and thank you for supporting each other as we navigate these new circumstances. Any future changes to normal operating hours will be announced on our website, Facebook page and via Constant Contact.

Thank you.
