Oregon Employment Department | OED took a deeper look at initial unemployment insurance claims, with the leisure and hospitality sector accounting for the largest claims. Read the April 16th blogpost here. During the week of April 5 to April 11, the Oregon Employment Department received 53,800 initial claims for unemployment benefits in addition to a revised total of 243,000 initial claims filed furing the prior three weeks. Express Employment Professionals | The U.S. economy lost 701,000 jobs in March, while unemployment rose nearly a percentage point from 3.5% in February to 4.4% in March, reflecting the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Leisure and Hospitality industry had the largest drop in employment in March, losing 459,000 positions, mainly in food and beverage services, while the Government added 12,000 jobs.
