The U.S. economy lost 701,000 jobs in March, while unemployment rose nearly a percentage point from 3.5% in February to 4.4% in March, reflecting the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Leisure and Hospitality industry had the largest drop in employment in March, losing 459,000 positions, mainly in food and beverage services, while the Government added 12,000 jobs.
