Dear Superintendents and School Leaders,

I want to make you aware of a report released today by the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) that may lead to questions among your staff and families about your reopening plans.

To craft standards to protect students, staff, and the community from the spread of COVID-19, SDUSD convened a panel of experts from UC San Diego.

SDUSD announced in a press release that due to the new SDUSD standards, conditions for reopening district schools “will be stricter than state standards, will proceed in phases, and will require critical protective measures including mandatory masks, proper ventilation, and strict social distancing.”

I hope this information is helpful. Thank you for all you are doing during these unprecedented times. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if I can be of assistance.

San Diego County Superintendent of Schools
