Dear Superintendents and School Leaders,
I’m writing with updates on several COVID-19-related items that have come up since my last message.
Case Rate by ZIP Code Dashboard
The San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) has created a dashboard
that shows an unofficial seven-day case rate for each ZIP code in the county.
The unofficial case rates reported for each ZIP code reflect the average number of new cases reported each day during this seven-day period, per 100,000 people. While accurate, it’s important to note these unofficial case rates differ significantly from the official case rates published by the County of San Diego. The county’s case rates are based on episode date. The unofficial rates reported here are based on the date on which the case was reported.
Recommendations for Conducting Vision and Hearing Screenings for Special Education Assessments
Now that schools in San Diego County are authorized to reopen for in-person instruction and to conduct in-person individual assessments, the SDCOE team has put together recommendations
to protect school employees performing these services for conducting vision and hearing screenings.
Updated COVID-19 Decision Guide and Training Video
SDCOE has updated the Decision Guide for COVID-19 Symptoms and Exposures
. We also updated the training video
on the Decision Guide for COVID-19 Symptoms and Exposures. This video walks a school administrator or nurse through what to do in the event of a symptomatic student, staff member, or visitor on campus; a close contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 on campus; and having someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 on campus.
Thank you for all you are doing during these unprecedented times. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if I can be of assistance.
Dr. Paul Gothold
San Diego County Superintendent of Schools
