Dear Superintendents,

Thank you for your time today. I appreciate all you are doing to prioritize student safety, keep the community updated, and work toward getting teachers and learners back together as safely as possible.

County of San Diego Contact
As you continue to develop your reopening plans, we want to connect you to support from County Health and Human Services. Katie Gordon is the lead for the COVID-19 Education Sector response team and has been working closely with the San Diego County Public Health Officer and the San Diego County Office of Education throughout the pandemic to support our local schools. Please feel free to reach out to her at Katherine.Gordon@sdcounty.ca.gov or at 619-885-0528 if you need support or have questions that need county guidance.

Katie hosts a weekly telebriefing for schools each Tuesday at 10 a.m., where they discuss school reopening guidelines and other resources to support school communities. Learn more about the weekly telebriefing

If you have families or partners looking for contact information or needing public health support, please encourage them to email COVID-Education@sdcounty.ca.gov or invite them to join the Tuesday telebriefings.

Draft Bargaining Unit Agreement
As I mentioned in the call, Dr. Mathew Holton, superintendent of Chaffey Joint Union High School District, shared the district’s draft memorandum of understanding with his teachers union for reopening of schools in a COVID-19 environment. View it here.

The district has also drafted documents to support the partial reinstatement of fall sports, performing arts, and cocurricular activities. View the staff responsibilities and agreement, and the waiver for parents/students.

Thank you for all you are doing to support our region’s children during these unprecedented times.
