Dear Raider Families,

After careful consideration and following the policies of the Office of Catholic Schools, we have made the decision to transition from on campus instruction to virtual learning beginning Tuesday, March 17, 2020, in order to ensure the safety of all our students and staff . On Monday, March 16, there will be no school for students, and teachers will begin posting lectures and assignments by the end of the day.

We have worked to prepare for this situation, so that there will be no pause in the educational process. Canvas, our learning management system, will allow students and teachers to interact remotely. Students have direct access to digital textbooks, discussion boards, videos, documents, and video lessons through Canvas. Teachers, staff, parents, and students can also communicate through our email system.

While our school holds virtual days, teachers will conduct learning using Canvas. Specifically, all teachers will have a module prepared and available for every single day. Within this module, teachers will include:

1.      notes and/or presentation for that day along with sample problems/scenarios that have already been worked out by the teacher
2.      if applicable, link(s) to valid YouTube videos that will help students understand the material
3.      a graded independent student activity (ex. worksheet, MathXL activity, IXL activity, etc.)
  •  Electronic assignments due that day
  • Paper assignments due the day students return
  • Teachers will instruct students that if there is an extenuating circumstance that precludes a student from submitting an assignment, then the student must email the teacher directly
4.      a graded discussion board question that forces students to respond to the lesson of the day in two or three sentences

No virtual learning grade will count for a test or quiz grade, since these types of assessments will be administered when students return to campus. In addition to the requirements above, teachers are expected to reply to all parent emails within 24 hours. If your son has any problems with Canvas, please contact our Technology Director at [email protected] .

I understand this is an evolving health concern, and guidance is changing daily. This decision involved close collaboration and coordination with the Archdiocese, local parish leaders, our administrators, and staff. We make this decision out of maximum consideration for the health and safety of our students and school community members. As we proceed, we are aware that there continue to be many concerns around COVID-19 and we want to ensure our families that we are working closely with the Archdiocese for updates and guidance. For the latest information on COVID-19, families are encouraged to visit our website and the CDC homepage.

As a community of faith, we ask that you join us and pray for the sick, those who help care for the sick, and all community leaders during the weeks to come.
