Dear Family and Friends of Tabor Village:
Update On Tabor Home Outbreak
Friday, November 6, 2020 will be remembered as the day that Tabor Village received the news of an additional four older persons living at Tabor Home being confirmed with testing positive for COVID-19. This brings the current total to six residents and seven staff.
Tabor Village and Fraser Health are working together to implement the COVID-19 infection control outbreak plan to reduce the risk of further spread of the virus. Safety measures have been put in place this week that include the following:
- Staffing levels maintained to provide resident care.
- Visitors restricted except for compassionate visits for residents receiving end of life care.
- Staff and resident movement has been restricted to neighbourhood cohorts.
- Cleaning high touch contact surfaces and enhancing infection control measures.
- Communicating regularly with residents, families and staff on the outbreak status.
- Twice a day active screening of symptoms with staff and residents.
Working with Fraser Health, additional resources have been made available including clinical nurse educators, infection control experts, and access to emergency supplies and additional staff if needed.
COVID-19 Testing
All staff and residents at Tabor Home are being swab tested for COVID-19 to identify any further cases of the virus.
Health Care Heroes
I had the opportunity to walk through Tabor Home today with a Fraser Health Public Health Nurse who was reminding health care workers on the four phases of hand hygiene. All the staff have been tested on their hand washing practice. We also checked in with the staff on how they are doing with the stress of working during an outbreak. Most importantly, we thanked the staff for their continued dedication to serving older persons who have COVID-19 and to prevent other older persons in their care who do not have the virus.
To put it simply, everyone who enters a long-term care home or assisted living community to provide care to older persons during the pandemic is a hero and deserves our praise. We will do everything we can to support staff members to do their best, to provide care from their heart.
Ambassadors
Each of us has the opportunity to share the story of Tabor Village with our family, friends, and social networks. Now more than ever, a positive thought goes a long way to support the staff on the front line of the pandemic. To give hope to older persons living in care who are isolated and on droplet precautions during the outbreak. To bless the broader community knowing that Tabor Village will get through this outbreak with the support from family members, friends and people who simply care about the mission of Tabor Village as a “vibrant community where seniors experience ‘Care from the Heart’ with Christian compassion and respect.”
Prayer
In light of current circumstances, prayer is the best way forward and sometimes the only thing to hold on to through difficult times. The prayer below is meant to be a prayer chain locally, nationally and internationally. The Chair of the Board of Directors of Tabor Village, Vic Martens, started us off with his message below:
Please pray for God’s hand of protection over Tabor Village as staff and Fraser Health deal with an outbreak of COVID-19 where staff and residents have tested positive at Tabor Home. Pray that staff and residents follow proper protocol to control the spread and that God will provide healing for those affected. Pray for strength, health, and energy for staff who test negative that God’s hand would guide them as they continue to care for the older adults of Tabor Village while their fellow coworkers who tested positive take some much needed time to recover. Thank you for praying.
Victor J. Martens
Tabor Home Society Board Chair
May the prayer chain continue among all of you as we pray for speedy recovery for those affected, and continued health for those who have not.
Let Us Continue To Follow Safety Measures
It is imperative that we all do our part to follow the safety measures that we have incorporated into our daily routines:
1. Wash hands thoroughly.
2. Do not touch your face.
3. Maintain physical distancing by staying six feet apart.
4. Wear your Mask.
5. Do not have anyone over to your home or go into someone else's home.
6. Avoid going to indoor places unless a safety plan is in place.
7. Connect with people in your household who you live with and support each other.
By following the above safety measures we will have the best chance of reducing the risk of contracting COVID-19 and slowing down the spread of the virus.
Stay Positive
We are living in difficult times and others are depending on us. By staying positive and supporting others who need our help we will make a difference in their lives and provide hope for a better tomorrow. That is the Tabor Village way. It is our way forward.
May you, your family and friends, and Tabor Village continue to be blessed.
