COVID-19 Outbreak Update - Tabor Home
Dear Family and Friends of Tabor Home:

As of November 12th at 4:00pm, we regret to inform you that we have a total of 26 staff and 22 residents that have now tested positive for COVID-19 at Tabor Home. We will be completing swab tests every week moving forward until we see all staff and residents test negative and the outbreak is declared over.

This continued testing is in addition to the many other enhanced safety measures we have implemented in our fight to get back to being COVID-19 FREE.

What's Being Done
Enhanced control measures have been put in place at the site. We continue to work with staff to identify anyone who may have been exposed and the infection control safety measures have been enhanced to protect the health of all staff, residents and families. 

The following has proactively been implemented at the site:
  • Staffing levels will be maintained to provide resident care.
  • Visitors are restricted throughout the facility.
  • Staff and residents movement in the facility has been restricted.
  • Cleaning and infection control measures have been enhanced.
  • Residents, families and staff are being kept informed.
  • Twice a day screening of all staff and residents.
  • Weekly testing of all staff and residents. 

During this time, the Tabor Village Outbreak Management Team and Fraser Health has additional onsite presence to take any further actions required and support the implementation of enhanced safety measures. This includes dedicated people to address quality, answer questions from staff, residents and family, and provide active checks of symptoms with staff and residents.

FAQ
Has everyone been tested? Are you doing more?
Over 200 people were tested last week and we will be testing again tomorrow and once a week until the outbreak is declared over.
 
Why is this outbreak so large?
We are working with Epidemiology at Fraser Health Public Health who are investigating the contact tracing for this outbreak. We are ensuring the infection control plan is in place and are focused on supporting the healthcare heroes who need our support now more than ever.
 
Are residents still receiving proper care?
We have ensured and will always ensure that staffing levels are maintained to continue quality 'Care from the Heart' for the older persons who call Tabor Home "home". Along with the support of Fraser Health, staffing levels are maintained and residents are well cared for. We do not, nor would we ever, compromise on providing quality, compassionate care for the older adults of Tabor Village.

How is my loved one's health?
If your loved one tests positive for COVID-19, the primary contact of that resident is contacted immediately upon receiving the results. Unless you receive that phone call, you can rest assured that your loved one is COVID-19 free and is being well taken care of by our hard-working, dedicated team of staff wearing proper protection for the safety of both your loved one and themselves.

Are residents isolated? Are there any activities for them?
In order to contain this outbreak and put an end to the spread, movement around the Home has been restricted, which does include residents being temporarily isolated in their rooms. This is not forever, this is just for now.

However, our Recreation team is putting their creativity to the test and continuing activities in unique ways with the utmost caution and safety as a top priority. Activities include pet therapy through robotic pets (which follows a strict safety plan), regular activity booklets including crosswords, poems, word searches, etc., and regular prayer and devotionals through the Clearbrook Church TV channel to ensure spiritual care is still very much active and present in daily life. We will continue to stretch our creative minds to ensure Recreational Therapy and spiritual care are always prominent components of life here at Tabor Home.
