Latest Vaccine News

The daily average number of new cases continues to increase in Kent County and across the state. Kent County is now averaging 203 new cases daily compared with approximately 70 per day one month ago and 115 per day last week. We are continuing to see increased case numbers in all age brackets except for those aged 65 and older (that oldest bracket has received the most vaccine). Our overall test positivity rate is now at 9.8% (up from 5.8% last week). Many other Michigan counties, especially those in southeast Michigan and parts of rural northern Michigan, now have positivity rates well over 10%. We currently have 69 residents hospitalized in Kent County hospitals; 13 of which are in intensive care. To date, 667 Kent County residents have died from COVID-19.

As of Monday, Kent County Health Department and our healthcare partners have administered a total of 275,611 vaccine doses. This represents an increase of 41,275 since last week’s update. 20.8% of our county residents are fully vaccinated and 33.4% have received at least one dose. At this time, we are vaccinating persons in phases 1A, 1B, and 1C. Kent County Health Department and our local healthcare partners received a substantial increase in vaccine allocation this week. The West Michigan Vaccine Clinic at DeVos Place will be administering approximately 42,000 doses this week. Other clinics will be administering thousands more.
