200 Vaccine Appointments for Age 12+ at KCHD

On Wednesday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention approved the use of Pfizer/BioNTech's coronavirus vaccine for 12-15-year-olds. In light of this announcement, the Kent County Health Department (KCHD) will start vaccinating this age group on Saturday.

KCHD has appointment availability at the following clinics:

Saturday, May 15 ∙ KCHD 700 Fuller Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503 ∙ 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Saturday, May 22 ∙ KCHD 700 Fuller Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503 ∙ 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Currently, the Pfizer vaccine is the only one approved for anyone 12 years and older. Anyone under 18 will need a parent/guardian present or a permission note from parent/guardian and a driver who is at least 18 years of age.

Updated CDC Guidelines When You Are Fully Vaccinated

On Thursday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced if you are fully vaccinated, you can resume activities that you did prior to the pandemic under certain circumstances. Watch for additional guidance from the State of Michigan on this announcement.

5 Ways to Talk to Someone Who is Vaccine Hesitant

Establish trust: Listen intently and avoid being judgmental – they might have a different set of experiences than you that's making them hesitant to get vaccinated.
Change a close-ended question to an open-ended question: You'll get more information if you say "Tell me what you think about the vaccine," instead of "Do you want to get the vaccine?"
Let them ask you why you've chosen to get vaccinated: Tell them what helped you make the decision to get vaccinated, and share reputable vaccine resources.
Talk about the good things that will come from getting vaccinated: Ask them what they might be able to do once they're fully vaccinated. Affirm their idea and share what you look forward to doing.
End the conversation on a respectful note: The goal of the conversation isn't to try to change someone's mind – it shouldn't be a debate or an argument. Tell them you respect their decision, no matter what they decide.

How do I get my vaccine counted as part of Michigan’s data if I was vaccinated in another state?

Show your vaccination record card to your primary healthcare provider (your regular doctor), and they can report it to the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR), Michigan’s system for recording vaccine information. If you do not regularly see a doctor, you can visit the Kent County Health Department located at 700 Fuller Ave NE in Grand Rapids and present your vaccination record card. The health department will report your vaccine to MCIR. That’s all it takes for your vaccination to be added to the doses administered on Michigan’s COVID-19 vaccine dashboard.
