Publisher's Note

Amidst all the bad news about the rising numbers of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases on St. Maarten with even one new death bringing the total to 16 and three people hospitalized and one isolated (see opening news item), we still have a bit of good news to report....

TEO'S SUPERETTE MINI MARKET OPENS IN ST. PETERS

This initiative in the style of a 'Colmado' or 'Bodega' is fundamental to the economic survival of our island, it's communities/districts and our people.

We applaud owner Michael Granger on this move. It is a small initiative we should not only support big time but also look to copy as well.

We expect to see many more such 'mom & pop' businesses popping up as we go deeper into economic survival mode. We don't have to be economists to tell you that small businesses are the life-blood of any economy.

In the USA they have forgotten that fundamental economic principle because of the allure of big business. Slowly as the economic crisis deepens, we will revert back to basics when it comes to business.... small businesses, that is.

In the meantime, do read this article and take an example from this bold and brave entrepreneur who is making big money moves with his mini market in St. Peters:

In a next edition, we will report about another such small initiative on the island that is already proving to be a big hit. Stay tuned.

Keep those creative juices flowing, St. Maarten people!
Our economy needs it.
