Our Response to COVID-19: Information
Globally
Good evening,

June 29, 2020 -- Peaking last Friday with 194,373 cases confirmed in a single day, the world's daily COVID-19 updates have all been north of 162K for seven days, ending at 164,967 new cases and 3,711 fatalities in the last 24 hours. Over the weekend, the world announced its 10 millionth infection and mourned over half a million related deaths. as the spread accelerates, as firmly announced in this morning's WHO global address, we will likely reach 11 million global cases this Friday. The United States has shown its leaders have failed to bend the curve, having reopened its economy with only sporadic or even casual enforcement of proper mitigation measures, which, since last week, has lead many states to close their recently reopened businesses that have provided the perfect environments for the virus to achieve its genetic and relentless mission of exploiting human interactions to find hosts and infect as many as possible. Today, few nations peaked after their staggering Friday numbers, but many did reach near peak infections, which has nurtured the high oscillation around the 162K+ mark. The last time the world reported less than 100,000 single-day confirmed COVID-19 cases was 35 days ago...

The United States has averaged 41,647 new daily COVID-19 cases over the last 7 days

In March and April, the US new cases were hovering around 30,000 for weeks. Then, in May, the numbers dropped to 25,000 for a while and even below 20,000 until the middle of June, when a sudden jump above 30,000, two weeks after Memorial Day weekend, heralded the return of the aggressive spread that dwarfed the early April national panic.

California, Texas, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, Alabama contributed growing Covid numbers reaching peak or near peak daily confirmed cases, keeping the US as the epicenter of the global pandemic and hanging on to that gruesome rank, well ahead of all other countries, with almost twice as many cases as second ranked Brazil.
Texas data:

  • 158,985 cases (+5,810)
  • 2,434 deaths (+18)

The spread of the disease in California is spiking and the epidemiological curve is headed in the wrong direction in the Golden State. COVID-19 spread mitigation messaging appears to have lost its initial efficiency and the Governor decided to close bars in several counties:

In the Central Valley
The Madera County Department of Public Health announced this evening that 73 more of our county's residents have been confirmed infected with COVID-19 over the weekend, with a high of 50 new cases on Saturday, 5 new cases Sunday, and 18 new cases today, bringing our cumulative cases to 488 in Madera. Once again, all seven counties reported new cases today, adding up to a near peak 654 new infections and 1 new COVID-19 death (5 deaths over the weekend). COVID-19 has killed 303 residents from our area of the central valley, of which the cumulative documented infections now total 16,978. Fresno county leads the 7 counties with 4,811 cases, of which 337 were announced today, a new peak for Fresno (although it represents a total of two days, because Fresno does not release data on Sundays).

Note: The tests information was estimated because Tulare and Merced counties do not explicitly share the data (only occasionally in Merced press releases), however, the positivity rate is available in the Merced County dashboard and the state of California also publishes the Tulare positivity rate, which enabled me to estimate the tests quantities.
