Our Response to COVID-19: Information

Good evening,
The numbers of new cases confirmed every day around the world have been totaled in 6 digits for the last 13 days, while the numbers of deaths have slowed a bit, settling under 4,000 two days in a row. I have added Egypt and Iraq to the monitored countries because their numbers are growing sharply as you can see in the charts below. Although the world just passed the 7 million cases mark yesterday, we will reach the 8 million milestone most likely a week from today. COVID-19 will have killed half a million people by the end of June.

It had been almost two weeks since the US had totaled less than 20,000 new cases in a single day (May 26 to be exact). Although very close, today came below 20,000 by 895 cases, so let's take in the good news, as they have been rare lately. Over the weekend, the US became the first nation reaching over 2 million cases, but the reported deaths are slowing down, reducing the death rate by 0.39% from its peak established on May 20, at 5.97%.

California started the week with a much better day today than on Friday -- when the state reached its new daily record -- thanks in part to Los Angeles County's new cases totaling only 800 new infections. Los Angeles county also announced 10 new COVID-19 deaths, far less than had been reported daily from the huge county of 10+ million residents, which had been averaging at least four times that many fatalities every day.
Back by popular demand, the image to the left is the county breakdown. As tables are hard to display in responsive emails, I included an image file on which you can click to download and explore the detailed information.
- COVID-19 California cases: 134,079 (+2,369)
- COVID-19 California deaths: 4,679 (+26)
- COVID-19 California death rate: 3.49%
- CA Testing: 2,431,324 individual tests

Madera County announced 9 more infected residents this evening, bringing our total county cases to 172. The Madera County Public Health Department also launched its own nifty
online dashboard. The combined coronavirus cases from the 7 local counties added 360 new infections and 7 new fatalities. The 7 counties will likely pass 10,000 cases before the end of the work week.
