Our Response to COVID-19: Information

Good evening,
July 1, 2020 -- With a new single day peak of 51,004 new cases, the US had the highest daily cases report of any country on earth today, even though Brazil reported 44,884 new cases and India ended its day with 19,424 new infections. As documented below with today's details, Indonesia, South Africa, and Colombia peaked again today, fueling the new global single-day total of 215,166 new confirmed COVID-19 infections, underscoring the successful acceleration of the virus spread everywhere on earth. To reach the new global high mark, many countries reported near peak new cases, including Iraq, Bangladesh, Egypt, Argentina, and Bolivia to name a few. Israel had a sudden jump, as it established a new peak in what appears to be its second wave, in a similar progression to Iran's. I will keep an eye on Israel and build its history in the next day or so. If tomorrow ends up with over 201,000 new cases, the world will end the work week with 11 million cases, having taken only 5 days to confirm a million new infections.

California announced sweeping new restrictions on indoor activities on Wednesday as the number of coronavirus cases continues to climb in the state. Restaurants, movie theaters, museums and other businesses in 19 counties will be forced to close indoor operations for at least the next three weeks, according to a statement from the state's department of public health.
The guidance applies to indoor operations in dine-in restaurants, wineries and tasting rooms, family entertainment centers, movie theaters, zoos, museums and cardrooms, according to the statement. But the businesses are allowed to modify their operations to provide outdoor service or pick-up..

The Madera County Department of Public Health announced this evening that 22 more of our county's residents have been confirmed infected with COVID-19 today, bringing our cumulative cases to 541 in Madera and total deaths to 5. Once again, all seven counties did report new cases today, adding up to a the second highest report of 674 new infections and 11 new COVID-19 deaths. COVID-19 has killed 326 residents from our area of the central valley, of which the cumulative documented infections now total 18,496. Fresno county leads the 7 counties with 5,289 cases. The spread is accelerating in the central valley, as the following numbers attest: 62% of the new COVID-19 cases (+11,506) have been confirmed since June 1 while 48% of the deaths (+155) have occurred in the last 31 days.
Note: The tests information was estimated because Tulare and Merced counties do not explicitly share the data (only occasionally in Merced press releases), however, the positivity rate is available in the Merced County dashboard and the state of California also publishes the Tulare positivity rate, which enabled me to estimate the tests quantities.
