Good evening,
August 6, 2020 -- The highest national report of confirmed new COVID-19 cases today came from India, reaching a new peak of 62,170 new coronavirus infections, recorded in one day, and passing the 60,000 symbolic mark for the first time in that country’s struggle with the pandemic. India also reported 899 new related deaths. India’s epidemiological curve is fueled by the country’s overall 9.14% positivity rate. The second largest populated country published its highest single-day report of 664,949 tests in the last 24 hours, doubling its testing capacity in the last three weeks. Colombia, newly ranked 9 after reporting more cumulative cases than Spain, reported its highest number of newly confirmed infections, as well as Argentina, which blew past its record established only yesterday. The US and Brazil together reported 113,412 new cases, contributing to the day’s 273,854 tally of confirmed infections. We lost 6,269 of our global brothers and sisters today.

US COVID-19 deaths predicted at nearly 300K; Georgia boy, 7, is state's youngest victim; Arizona prison outbreak spurs backlash | USA Today
The U.S. State Department no longer says Americans should avoid all international travel due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the list of countries welcoming people from the U.S.A. is still slim.
The agency said travel advisories will now be issued on a country-by-country basis as conditions internationally improve or worsen. But according to most nations, the virus is so widespread in the U.S. that would-be American tourists face barriers or bans.
The nation's top health official, Dr. Anthony Fauci, says the overall response to the pandemic in the U.S. has allowed the daily case count to plateau at an "unacceptable level," warning that the virus will continue to "smolder" without a unified effort to stop it... READ MORE

Coronavirus updates: California data problem stalls contact tracing; death toll near 10,000 | Sacbee.com
|
As health officials throughout California remain handcuffed by a major ongoing problem with the electronic system used to track COVID-19 case data, the technical issue is introducing significant delays to the contact tracing process, while also keeping local jurisdictions in the dark about the true coronavirus transmission rates occurring in their communities.
The computer problem, which is blocking case data from getting to both the state and individual counties, could also stall Gov. Gavin Newsom’s plan to let some elementary schools reopen via a waiver process that the state described in detail Monday.
The California Department of Public Health and numerous individual counties first publicly acknowledged the data glitch, which has resulted in noticeably underreported COVID-19 case totals, earlier this week. It’s unknown how many cases may be going uncounted, when the issue might be fixed or when exactly the undercounting issue problem started. Some counties, including Placer and Riverside, have said data discrepancies started showing up around last Friday; others suspect it started as early as the prior Saturday, July 25.
Kat DeBurgh, executive director of the Health Officers Association of California, says the technical problem appears to be affecting the state’s data for all counties, which is collected through the currently glitched system known as CalREDIE.... READ MORE

NOTICE: Please note that CalREDIE, the statewide electronic disease reporting system, is experiencing serious unresolved processing delays. As such, new cases presented here are likely an underestimate of true incident cases being reported.
