U.S. deaths have risen to over 160,000 total.

A pandemic of the novel coronavirus has now killed more than 712,000 people worldwide.

Over 19 million people across the globe have been diagnosed with COVID-19, the disease caused by the new respiratory virus, according to data compiled by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.

The actual numbers are believed to be much higher due to testing shortages, many unreported cases and suspicions that some national governments are hiding or downplaying the scope of their outbreaks.

That has made it difficult to determine case trends and has affected whether counties can allow certain sectors to move forward — most notably in-person instruction, right as the school year begins.

California has had more than 524,000 cases, the most of any state in the nation, as well as... READ MORE
