The Mittal Institute is rolling out a Spring webinar series on COVID-19 in South Asia, with panels of Harvard faculty and in-region experts. Our first panel on Friday, April 17, will delve into the varied in-region responses to the virus in South Asia.
Imtiaz ul Haq , a Research Affiliate at the Mittal Institute and Financial Sector Consultant at the World Bank, writes about a new way to measure economic performance in South Asia through the use of a rather unconventional tool: satellites in space.
On Monday, applications will open for the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 Visiting Artist Fellowship semesters, which will bring artists from South Asia to Harvard for eight weeks. Using Harvard’s resources, fellows will explore critical issues in South Asia through the lens of art and design.

Dr. Jennifer Leaning,  Professor of the Practice of Health and Human Rights at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, will moderate a panel on the science behind COVID-19. Details to come.

The South Asian Studies Council is hosting a webinar about harnessing research for response in Pakistan against the backdrop of the COVID-19 outbreak. Moderated by Sarah Khan , Assistant Professor of Political Science, panelists include: Asim Ijaz Khwaja , Director of the Center for International Development; Ghazala Mansuri , a lead economist at the World Bank; and Nausheen Anwar , Professor of City and Regional Planning at the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi.

Starting next Monday, artists from South Asia can apply for the Fall 2020 or Spring 2021 Visiting Artist Fellowships at the Mittal Institute, which brings four artists from South Asia to the Harvard campus in Cambridge each year. Art Fellows have the opportunity to perform research and use Harvard’s vast resources to build on their future art practice.
