Dear Members,
It’s with much regret that we’re having to let you know that we have
temporarily closed our Granville Island store while we wait out the threat of
COVID-19.
As you can imagine, this was a very difficult decision for the Board and
managers to come to, but it was inevitable. We are all being asked to slow
the spread by minimizing our social contacts and that applies very much to
our valued store staff. It would have been completely irresponsible on our
part as employers to ask that they continue coming in contact with the
public.
We do understand that closing the store, even temporarily, will have a
serious impact on our members’ sales and we apologise profusely for that.
This move is absolutely unprecedented, but then, so is everything else that’s
happening around us.
It’s impossible to say how long the closure will last but we can assume that
it will probably be at least four weeks. The Board and managers will be
monitoring conditions on an ongoing basis to determine the earliest possible
date for reopening. The good news is that the Co-op is in a very stable
financial position and we will be able to withstand the loss of store sales for
a good deal longer than four weeks if necessary.
We ask that you not bring any new work to the store, effective immediately,
or send any shipments.
We hope that you are all able to stay safe during these most unusual times.
It’s a good opportunity to hunker down in the studio but it’s okay to get
outside, too, and enjoy the fresh air.
We’ll be in contact again when conditions change but please don’t hesitate to
get in touch if you have questions or want to discuss further.
