Dear KCU Campus Community,

Thank you for your cooperation during our most recent round of random surveillance testing for COVID. Surveillance testing is a proven strategy in supporting the health and well-being of our campus community, and because of your participation we were able to complete nearly 1,400 tests over the last six weeks.

Beginning Tuesday, October 26, we will enter the next round of campus surveillance testing. This cycle of testing will take place throughout the remainder of this semester as a key component of our continued efforts to monitor the prevalence of COVID and limit its spread.

An added offering during this phase of testing is the ability for anyone to complete a walk-in test during any of the scheduled testing events, regardless of being selected as a participant in that week’s testing pool. Surveillance testing is free and usually takes less than five minutes.

All on-campus students and all full-time faculty and staff can expect to be randomly selected for testing approximately every other month as a part of this mitigation effort.

Please note that surveillance testing is only for asymptomatic individuals. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, you should continue to contact Score 1 for Health at 1-877-425-0251 to report your symptoms and receive instructions.

The weekly testing events for each campus will take place as follows:
Joplin Campus Testing | Beginning October 26

Day and Time: Every Tuesday from 9 AM – 1 PM
Location: Learning Studio, South Classroom or Lecture Hall depending on the week

Kansas City Campus Testing | Beginning October 27

Day and Time: Every Wednesday from 8 AM – 12 PM
Location: Classroom B of the Annex Building

If you would like to be tested during any of the scheduled weekly surveillance events, please come to the respective campus location and check in during the event. If you haven’t pre-registered, be sure to bring your phone or laptop and we will provide information on how to complete the registration. Those individuals randomly selected to be tested will receive an email notification and calendar invite at least two days prior to your assigned testing date.

While there is no single strategy for mitigating all risks related to COVID, our surveillance testing effort is one of the most effective tools for monitoring and preventing its spread throughout our campus community. Additionally, the thoughtful coordination and application of multiple approaches, including vaccinating, wearing face masks and surveillance testing, work in tandem to sustain KCU’s ability to continue on-campus learning and services. I continue to be truly appreciative of your cooperation in keeping our campus safe.

I look forward to visiting with you soon.
Sincerely,

Carlton Abner, DNP, RN-BC
Associate Provost for Campus Health & Wellness
