Construction re-start COVID-19 job site requirements plan
Today Governor Inslee announced an agreement to restart some "low-risk” construction activity under a
COVID-19 Job Site Requirements plan
. This includes commercial (public and private) and residential construction.
The plan requires every job site to have a COVID-19 plan that includes the following elements:
- A written plan and a site supervisor
- Training on the COVID-19 procedures
- Social distancing (6 feet apart) of all workers on the construction site at all times
- Ideally one trade on site at a time and if that is not possible, social distancing between workers
- Employer provided personal protection equipment appropriate to the work
- Available sanitation stations that include water and soap
- Screening for employee health symptoms
The plan references “existing construction projects”. SMACNA is getting more clarification on what that means. The plan allows construction to start as soon as the project owner and contractor can meet all of the requirements in the plan. Labor and Industries will be enforcing these requirements and will respond to complaints.
These requirements will remain in place for the duration of the Stay Home order which expires on May 4 at this point, although the Governor has signaled that he will probably extend the order. Local governments may adopt similar requirements.
