Talks with Governor about construction re-start
An alliance of the Construction Trade Associations was able to urge Governor Inslee to put together a construction-advisory group to discuss how construction could be safely restarted and when. AGCW executive vice president David D'Hondt is representing AGC (and well as all of the Construction Trade Associations - Including SMACNA), and other members of the advisory groups include BIAW, Association of Washington Business, Washington State Building Trades, Operating Engineers, and Carpenters. Several conversations have taken place already, with the main focus being safety, and specific COVID-19 related elements should be in place for a broader construction opening to take place. SMACNA has been able to provide feedback and direction to the AGC for the ongoing discussions. SMACNA will keep members informed as things progress.
Construction shutdowns across the US due to the coronavirus pandemic could affect more than $4.3 billion in loans, according to data from Built. "What we have is the convergence of a hard market and confusion of how much new work we will have when we turn the spigot back on," said Joe Charczenko of insurance and surety brokerage Construction Risk Partners.
