MHA Board of Trustees Meet
The MHA Board of Trustees held its first meeting of the 2016-2017 program year last week and worked to develop the association's work plan for the year.
The meeting included discussions regarding the preferred strategy for hospital/health system relationships with all payers and an extensive review of the work of the Board Subcommittee on Future Strategic Relationships with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM).
Allan Frankel, MD, co-founder and chief medical officer of Safe and Reliable Healthcare, LLP, Evergreen, CO, presented his findings regarding the status of healthcare quality in Michigan, incorporating data from a variety of sources including Truven, Leapfrog and the MHA Keystone Center.
Combined with reviews of the political atmosphere and the issues to be confronted both in the 2016 lame-duck session of the Legislature and the beginning of the 2016-2017 legislative cycle, these discussions gave rise to a clear set of association priorities encompassing election year 2016, auto no-fault insurance, the fiscal year 2018 state budget, payer strategy, and quality.

Screen our patients for opioid use disorder and provide or connect them with evidence-based treatment. 3.) Talk about and treat addiction as a chronic illness, not a moral failing.
