Worship with us every Sunday at 10 am.

All are welcome.

Happy Thanksgiving, Community Presbyterian Church!

I hope you are having a beautiful Thanksgiving Day and that you are well-cared-for or caring for others on this special holiday. Know that I am deeply grateful for all of you.

This weekend, Christmas decorations go up (if they aren't already), and we anticipate the artificial lights and sounds and activity growing brighter and louder and crazier until everyone falls, exhausted, on Christmas Day. In the church, we live by a different rhythm. ADVENT (which also begins this weekend) is traditionally a reflective time when we slow down, take an honest look at the darkness around us, and place our hope firmly in the light of Christ breaking through. It's not going to be having more, buying more, shouting louder, or trying harder that will bring the light; only Christ coming to be WITH US and FOR US will save us and the world God so dearly loves.

So, my encouragement to you and to myself is to resist the flurry this December. Take time to breathe. Put down your phone. Light a candle. Come to worship. Pray. Be guided by the Spirit.

And, to quote one of my favorite Advent songs,

O God, "while we are waiting, COME!"

Welcome to CPC's Pulpit, Forrest Buckner

CPC will welcome the Rev. Dr. Forrest Buckner to our pulpit this Sunday! Forrest is the Dean of Spiritual Life and Campus Pastor at Whitworth University, where he has served since 2015. After completing undergraduate degrees in civil and mechanical engineering at Colorado School of Mines, Forrest worked at First Presbyterian Church of Boulder for more than nine years. He earned his M.Div. from Fuller Theological Seminary and his Ph.D. in Theology from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. Outside of Whitworth, he primarily enjoys spending time with his wife and three delightful children. Forrest is a gifted pastor and preacher, and we are excited to have him preach the Word to us on the first Sunday of Advent!

Listen to Pastor Betsey's 11/23 sermon"Determination and Love" by clicking here. Feel free to share this with others.

"What Do You Fear? Insisting on Hope This Advent"

According to Luke’s Gospel, Jesus entered a world filled with rampant oppression, economic disparity, uncertainty, and instability, not so unlike our own. And yet, throughout the stories of Christ’s birth, the whispers of angels deliver a surprising message: “Do not fear.” When Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, and the magi are each called into God’s redemptive story, they do not deny their fears—they move through them. This season, we will reflect on their stories and learn how to insist on hope, trusting that good news is greater than fear!
