Open Choir Opportunity
You are invited to be a member of the choir on Sunday, September 2. The choir will sing "Many Gifts, One Spirit" by Allen Pote at the 10:00 a.m. service. This familiar anthem is a choir favorite. We will rehearse the music at 9:40 a.m. in the choir room. If you are now in the choir, have ever been in a choir or have thought about singing with the choir, this is your chance. There are many wonderful singers in the congregation! Please consider singing with us, you'll be glad you did!

Preschool Playground Workday, this Saturday, Sept. 1
Cary Presbyterian Preschool is looking for volunteers for our Playground Workday.
We will be meeting on the playground on Saturday, September 1 from 8:30 a.m. 12:00 p.m. We'll be hauling mulch and sand, weeding and getting our playground ready for the new school year! We will also be doing some demo work on the old playhouse to prepare for a new one. Bring hammers/mallets, gloves, shovels, rakes, pitchforks, trimmers, and a wheelbarrow if you have one. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Please call the preschool office at (919) 469-2229 or email to let us know if you can come. Thank you for supporting the preschool and keeping the playground beautiful for all the church's children!

CPC Instrumental Ensemble Invitation
The CPC Instrumental Ensemble will pick back up beginning in September. Woodwinds, brass, and strings are all welcome. Contact Justin Dickson by email at or by calling him at 336-692-5364 if you're interested or for more information!

Rally Day is Sunday, September 9 at 9:45!

Plan to be at Rally Day to:
  • register for Sunday School
  • support our third graders receiving their Bibles
  • begin connecting with others in your class (for youth and children)
  • learn about adult education and Christian faith formation opportunities for the year
  • share in a simple finger-food breakfast (please bring something to contribute)
We're planning now for a fabulous new year of Sunday School for everyone.
Shepherds and Teachers Needed
Faith Journey is our unique Sunday school for elementary kids.
This year several of our shepherds for Faith Journey are retiring. Our children need four adults to guide them through their Sunday school learning. These folks are not teachers, but companions along the way. No prep is involved; it's all relationship.
We're also currently signing up teachers for Faith Journey. Teaching in Faith Journey is flexible! You teach a 'workshop' once or twice during a unit, take a break, and perhaps, sign on again. Workshops are creative and fun and can include drama, art, science or computers, among others.  CHECK OUT THE Sign-Up Board for units and times. If you've never done this before, you're missing out!
We also would like to staff our Middle School class with one more co-teacher, and the same for our Preschool/Kindergarten class. Either one uses creative learning activities-come on board!
There's a new adult class
Check out the display in the Narthex with some of the resources that will be offered in various adult classes. This year's class lineup features a new guy in town: Kerygma Bible study class, as well as our returning favorites. Please consider teaching in the Faith TODAY class. It's flexible and current.

To accept any of these invitations to serve or if you have questions, please contact Medora Hix, Director of Christian Faith Formation, by phone at (919) 467-8700 or email

New! Be a Greeter for Sunday School!
We'd love to offer a special welcome to Sunday school visitors: greet them, provide information, and escort them to a class. We'd like to have two people: one in the narthex area from 9:30-10:10 a.m. and one near the lower/back door from 9:30-10:00 a.m. (This may be a perfect fit for a choir member.) Contact Cathy Williams or Medora Hix. This role can be 'job-shared!'

CPC Music Ministry Opportunities

Attention Current and Interested Choir Members:
Regular choir rehearsals begin Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the choir room. We encourage all current singers and new members to be at our first rehearsal. Anyone interested in becoming a member of a fun, exciting group is welcome. Singers for the 8:30 service are especially needed: it would be wonderful to have enough singers for choirs at both services. Please plan to join us for the upcoming "Open Choir" on Sept. 2, and/or rehearsal on Wednesday, Sept. 5. Questions? Please speak with Ed Yasick or any current choir member.
Some facts you may not know about our choir:
  • We accept people of any age, high school and above. Ages of members range from 16 years to 80 plus.
  • No experience is needed. We have members with no experience (other than a love of singing), as well as instrumentalists, those who sing in other school, church or community ensembles, and with degrees in music.
  • We welcome people from all religious backgrounds. Our choir has members with various church histories that help make worship meaningful for all.
  • Minimal commitment is required. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and sing at either the 8:30 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. service on Sundays, September through May. If you need to be away, just sign-out that particular day.
  • We have a lot of fun! We enjoy singing, talking, fellowship, and food!
To all interested singers and musicians:
Please join us Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall for dinner, music, and fellowship (sponsored by the Music and Worship Team).
This evening is for you if:
  • You have thought of singing in the choir, a smaller group, or as a soloist.
  • You play a wind or string instrument and would like to join the CPC Orchestra. The group is open to wind and string players of high school age and above. The orchestra rehearses on Sundays after 11:00 a.m. worship and plays several times throughout the year (including Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday). Justin Dickson, our director, will be available to speak with you.
  • You play any other instrument and have an interest in becoming part of our CPC music program. This includes instrumentalists for special occasions and preludes, as well as guitar and piano players.
  • Bringing an instrument Sept. 12 isn't necessary: please join us to learn more about how you can use your talents.
We look forward to seeing you at:
  • "Open Choir" on Sunday, Sept. 2. (Meet at 9:40 a.m. in the choir room)
  • Rehearsal on Wednesday, Sept. 5. (7:30 p.m. in the choir room)
  • An Evening of Music, Fellowship, and Dinner on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
Questions? Please contact Ed Yasick (, Justin Dickson (, or any current choir member.

Tuesday, September 4,
7:00 p.m. at
Peg Giesbrecht's home

The Cool Books Club will meet on Tuesday, September 4, at 7 p.m. at the home of Peg Giesbrecht.

We will read and discuss parts 2 and 3 of the book we began this month, Brian D. McLaren's  The Great Spiritual Migration: How the World's Largest Religion is Seeking a Better Way to be Christian

Amazon: "Brian McLaren, a leading voice in contemporary religion, argues that- notwithstanding the dire headlines about the demise of faith and drop in church attendance-Christian faith is not dying. Rather, it is embarking on a once-in-an-era spiritual shift. For millions, the journey has already begun....

With his trademark brilliance and compassion, McLaren invites readers to seize the moment and set out on the most significant spiritual pilgrimage of our time: to help Christianity become more Christian."
If you are interested in joining us for this discussion, please contact Peg at 919-859-3951 or Ellen Cline ar 919-469-1456.

Important New Church Security Information

The Building and Grounds Team and the Security Task Force are preparing a major step to enhance the safety and security of those who worship, meet, and otherwise use the church facilities.

Entry codes will be issued to those needing access to the building during the week and on Sunday. The code will allow the user to open a specific door and enter the building. (Some doors will not permit entry, but all will allow exit.) Codes will be issued to staff members, church members with regular or specific building access needs, and representatives of groups regularly using CPC facilities. All members may request a code.

Code issuing is now underway, with full implementation. Keypad installation is planned for the week of September 17. Keypads and codes will not be active immediately. The congregation will be notified when the system is operable.
