Message from Pastor Arlene
Waiting for it to end… If you’re like me, you may have turned the corner on your love of winter. Back in November, I couldn’t wait of the first snowflakes to fall. The brisk winter winds were a welcome change from the heat and humidity of summer, signaling the season to pull out the long sleeves and sweaters and fire up the wood stove—no pun intended!
But now that it’s February, the novelty of cozy nights indoors piled under warm blankets, or the excitement of waking up to a fresh blanket of snow, has kind of run its course. I’ve grown tired of wearing multiple layers and afternoons that are just TOO cold to take the dog out for a nice, long walk. I have officially begun longing for spring, even while I know that it’s still a good many weeks away.
I am a person who believes in the power of being grateful for each day, but there are times when we wish time could move just a little bit faster than it currently is. There are days, weeks, months, and sometimes even years, that can feel like a long, drawn out winter… seasons of life when we’re waiting for new life, or the breakthrough of something more hope-filled than our present circumstance. In such moments it is so very comforting to know that God has a plan.
In the Bible there are no less (and probably many more,) than 116 specific references to waiting for God to act. That tells us something important about the human condition and God’s faithfulness. For generations God’s people have waited and trusted in God’s benevolence.
• "Wait for the Lord": Psalm 27:14 emphasizes the importance of actively waiting for God's timing, encouraging strength and courage while doing so.
• "Renewed strength": Isaiah 40:31 describes how those who hope in the Lord will be renewed in strength and not grow weary while waiting.
• "The Lord is good to those who wait": Lamentations 3:25 offers comfort with the reminder that God is active in our waiting.
So, no matter what season of life you may be in, or what you may be waiting for, know that God sees you and cares. God promises strength enough to endure the season of waiting, and promises great reward for those who wait with faith. Like knowing spring will eventually come in God’s own good time, we wait and watch with anticipation of the beauty about to unfold.
