Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

~Psalm 119:105

1991… That is the year my daughter was born. On her next birthday, my daughter will turn 35 years old. In that amount of time so much has changed! My daughter grew up and matured and is now even beginning to see a hint of wrinkles and those first grey hairs. Time has a way of doing that!

1991… That’s also the year we purchased our church’s lectern and pew Bibles. Thirty-five years—translated into 1,820 Sundays, plus Christmases, Good Fridays, Ash Wednesdays, Memorial services, etc. In other words, they’ve been well used (and well-worn) for nearly thirty-five years! The time has come to replace them.

Starting next Sunday, our congregation will begin reading the scriptures from brand-new Bibles in worship! These larger-print NIV Bibles were made possible through Memorial Funds given by generous donors in memory of their loved ones. (Memorial Funds also made possible our church’s new sign on Carletondale Road!)

But, with all the various versions of the Bible available today, you may be wondering… Why the New International Version? The NIV is a modern-language version that is reader-friendly and easy on the ear—all essential elements for scripture that is read aloud on Sunday mornings. In addition, the NIV is also an accurate translation of the original Hebrew and Greek scriptures, (versus paraphrase Bibles, which can be misleading.) Add to these reasons affordability and a larger-print option, and the Worship Committee believes that this Bible serves our church’s needs best.

But, what will happen to our old Bibles, you may be asking? They are also getting new life through a prison ministry connection made known through Tracy Rynkowski. Pew Bibles that were dedicated in honor or memory of loved ones may be picked up and taken home now through the end of October. Those that remain will be shipped to North Carolina, where they will continue to be well used by a whole new group of Christians in need of God’s Word, to serve as a lamp to their feet and a light to their path!

Memorial Gifts

Monies given to CPC in memory of a loved one are an impactful way to honor the lives of those who have passed. If you are interested in making a memorial gift to the ministry of Community Presbyterian Church in memory of a loved one, please speak to our church’s Treasurer, Rich Crowe. Memorial gifts can be given for undesignated or designated purposes—such as worship, gardens, children’s ministry, music, etc. We are abundantly grateful to those who made such gifts in the past. They have made our new sign and Bibles possible!

New Pew Bible Dedications

If you wish to dedicate one of our new Bibles in honor of a living person, or in memory of someone who has passed, speak to Rich Crowe. Bible dedications are $20 per Bible and are a lovely way to celebrate those important people in our lives. A book plate with your dedication will be placed inside the front cover.

Coming to Your Mailbox Soon

The 2026 “Faith Commitment” Stewardship Campaign begins on November 1st. Watch your mailbox for our latest news and the many ways Community Presbyterian Church is impacting the lives of people young and old, in and outside of the church, for the better! Stewardship season culminates with Harvest Sunday, on November 23—a very special day, designed to celebrate all the good gifts the Lord has given. Following worship, we will share a potluck meal, together. Mark your calendar, today!

Carpenters' Club

Chip Cronauer will be leading a merry band of carpenters and handymen through a long list of tasks, repairs and updates which need to be completed around the church building. This group will meet on Saturday, October 25th from 8:00 - 10:00 am.

ALL participants are much needed and will be warmly received and light refreshments will be provided.

The photo shows a task from a previous get-together - but rest assured that most of the jobs you will be asked to do can be accomplished on terra firma! Current tasks include:

  1. Installing the remaining fencing around the memorial garden (or at least get the posts into the ground before it freezes.
  2. Winterizing the vents in the gym before the weather turns cold. This requires sealing the vent doors and possibly installing some insulation.
  3. Painting the existing memorial garden fence before it is too cold to do so.

Pumpkin Patch

October 19th

Last Sunday participants of all ages had a great time creating fun, unique and personal pumpkins!

Youth and Family

While Halloween is just around the corner it is already time to begin planning for our Children’s Christmas Bazaar. This year's Bazaar will be held on December 7th following worship and will provide the children of our community the chance to “shop” for their family in a safe, easy to navigate space.

To provide this opportunity for our community children, we need at least 15 volunteers. There are so many areas you can help out and we need volunteers of all ages ages.

Last call for helpers will be October 25th. Please reach out to Tracy Rynkowski either via text @ 973-897-4864 or email @ tracyrynkowski@gmail.com so we know to include you in future info.

I will send out a planning email on October 27 followed by a Zoom meeting on October 29th at 7:00 pm

Thanks in advance for all you do to support these little members of our family!

Blessings!

Tracy Rynkowski

Part Time Communications Coordinator Position Available

The Presbytery of the Highlands is seeking a creative and mission-driven Part-Time Communications Coordinator (25 hours per week) to help us share the story of what God is doing among our congregations and communities.

This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who enjoys weaving together storytelling, strategy, and technology to inspire, inform, and connect others. The right candidate will bring both heart and skill — someone who understands the values of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and believes that effective communication can strengthen our shared ministry.
