"Gideon; Part 2 "What Are the Odds?"

Judges 7:1-15| Courtney Vereide

We live in a world that is constantly calculating the odds... determining the probability of a victory, promotion, or success. But what happens when the odds are so slim that our desired outcome seems impossible? This Sunday, we continue in the story of Gideon, to find out what happens after he says "yes" to God, but the odds seem to be against him.

Men’s Cookout and Cornhole Tournament: Get ready, gentlemen—the most prestigious cornhole championship in all of Centreville is back! Join us for our annual Men’s BBQ & Cornhole Tournament on Saturday, August 23rd from 11:00 AM to around 1:30 PM. Come hungry, come competitive, and come ready to hang out with a great crew. As always, we could use some extra hands for setup, cleanup, grilling, bringing cornhole boards, and of course—officiating the intense bracket battles. If you've got the time, we've got a spot for you!

Disaster Relief to NC: We are returning to the Asheville area of NC October 26-31 to help with relief efforts from hurricane Helene.  The restoration work will take between 3 and 5 years for the area to recover.  We are taking a team of 14 people.  This is an intergenerational missions opportunity. You can register here at by clicking below.

Need for Pot Roasts: Each month, CPC provides a warm, homemade meal of pot roasts for the Lamb Center, a day shelter serving homeless men and women in our community. We’re looking for 13 volunteers to prepare roasts for Tuesday, August 19 — and we’d love your help! You can bring your fully assembled roast to church on Sunday, August 17, or deliver it hot to CPC by 10:00 AM on August 17. A simple, crowd-pleasing recipe is available by clicking below.

Young Adults - Maverick City Music Hangout: Christian Worship Band Maverick City Music has a concert at Wolf Trap on Wednesday, August 6. Young Adults and “1822” will have a spot on the lawn. Buy your ticket online and meet the group there. For details, click below to email Courtney.

A Whale of a Tale: Hey CPC Young Adults: Is there more to the story of Jonah than a storm and a big fish? Come find out. Over the four Thursdays in August, CPC Young Adults will explore the book of Jonah together. Thursdays nights from 7:00-8:30pm in Reston/Herndon.

London Towne Elementary School: Each week during the school year, a faithful group of people pack 90 bags of food so that children from the Title 1 program at London Towne Elementary School can have food for the weekend. Each bag costs only $3.75 but makes a huge difference for the child. This comes to about $1,328 per month. As this is not part of our church budget, we rely on designated gifts to provide the food. If you would like to make a donation to this, you can use the QR code below, or go to the donation page of our website and scroll down to LTES. Contact Lucille Marciano for any additional information.

CPC Security Team: Every week, our congregation is watched over by a team of faithful volunteers. Recent international events have led to increased threats against places of worship in the United States. As such, we need more eyes and ears in the lobby while our families are all in the Sanctuary.

Are you willing to pray about occasionally helping out in this very important volunteer role?  If you have questions, please email Dave Arnold.

Life Groups & Bible Studies – Fall Launch: A brand-new season of Life Groups and Bible Studies is kicking off the week of September 7th, and we couldn’t be more excited to invite you in. Whether you’ve been a part of a group before or this is your very first time, there’s a seat for you. These groups are more than just weekly meetings—they’re a place to laugh, learn, ask questions, build friendships, and explore what it really means to follow Jesus together. Along the way, we’ll share meals, stories, prayers, and lots of encouragement. So don’t just go to church—be the church. Come find your people, grow in faith, and make this season one of real spiritual momentum.

PRAYER   Allow us to pray for and with you by filling out the prayer request form.
