"Must We always Forgive?"

Matthew 6:9-15 | Pastor Aaron McMillan | May 3, 2026

-------------------------------------------------------

Jesus teaches us to forgive those who have hurt us. (But) is it ever ok not to forgive? Aren't there some times when it would be inappropriate to show someone mercy? And why exactly is forgiveness a good thing? Shouldn't people be held accountable for what they do? Join us this Sunday as we begin an exploration of one of the Bible's biggest ideas (and the world's biggest hangups) Forgiveness.

May Food Drive. CPC’s annual May Food Drive will begin in just a few days. Throughout the month of May we will be collecting items needed for Haymarket Regional Food Pantry and Western Fairfax Christian Ministries. Help us stock the shelves of our local food pantries. Most-needed lists and food drive flyers are on our website and available for pick up in the church lobby. Bring donations anytime!

Life moves fast, and it’s easy to get caught up in the momentum of our daily routines. This Tuesday, May 5th at 7:30 p.m., we’re inviting you to step out of the noise and into a different rhythm at “First Tuesday.” This is a dedicated hour to quiet the distractions and simply be present. We’ll spend the evening in worship, pausing to recognize the ways God has been moving in our lives and lifting up our prayers for the season ahead. Whether you need a moment of rest or a fresh sense of hope, we’d love to have you join us.

CPC Security Team: Our CPC Men’s Group helps lead security for Sunday worship services and special events, and we’re always looking for dependable adults who can step in and serve when needed. This is a meaningful way to care for our church family behind the scenes. If you’re interested, sign up using the link below or contact Dave Arnold, our Security Coordinator, by phone or email.

Mother's Day Recognition Brunch: As we’ve done in recent years, we’re excited to host a Mother’s Day brunch between worship services on Sunday, May 10th. This is always a meaningful way to honor the moms in our church—and it only works when our men show up. Right now, we’ve only filled 7 of the 26 needed food sign-ups, so we could really use some help. If you have a mom—or are married to one—this is a simple, tangible way to show appreciation. We’re asking CPC men to jump in by bringing a sandwich platter, salad, or dessert, and helping with setup if you’re able. Let’s make this a strong showing and another great year celebrating the women who mean so much to our church. Click below to sign up.

Volunteers Needed: Our church runs on people who faithfully serve behind the scenes—and we’re looking to add a few more to the team.

CPC is looking for volunteers to help support the day-to-day work of the church office. This role plays a big part in keeping things organized, communication clear, and everything running smoothly week to week.

If you (or someone you know) are organized, detail-oriented, and have a heart to serve, we’d love to connect.

Need for Pot Roasts: Each month, CPC provides a warm, homemade meal of pot roasts for the Lamb Center, a day shelter serving homeless men and women in our community. We’re looking for 13 volunteers to prepare roasts for Tuesday, May 19th — and we’d love your help! You can bring your fully assembled roast to church on Sunday, May 17 and we will cook it for you. You can also deliver it hot to CPC by 10:15 AM on May 19th. A simple, crowd-pleasing recipe is available by clicking below.

CPCKids Camp: Kick off your summer with us! Grab your spot now for our 4-day camp June 23rd - 26th from 9:30am-12pm for kids in PreK- rising 5th grades. Together we will explore the nature of God at Rainforest Falls through interactive and hands-on Bible-learning experiences and, of course, loads of fun! We will be putting the rain in Rainforest Falls by bringing back Water Day for 2026. Register using the Church App under sign ups or go by clicking below. Contact Hilary to let her know if you'd like to serve at camp this year.

CPCKids Fun Friday “Late Night”. 4th - 6th graders, our last Fun Friday of the school year is May 8th. Come to Fun Friday “Late Night” when we extend our time until 9pm and invite rising 4th graders to come check out how we put the FUN in Fun Friday. Be sure to bring a water bottle and invite your friends. If this will be your first time attending, please register by clicking below. If you have any questions about Fun Friday, or any CPCKids activities contact Jill.

Disaster Relief: Please be in prayer for our Disaster Relief team as they return to the Asheville, NC area this week. In the wake of Hurricane Helene, many families are still facing the loss of homes and the long road of rebuilding. Pray for strength, safety, and endurance for our team as they serve, and for meaningful opportunities to bring not just practical help, but real hope and encouragement to those they meet.

Join the CPC Team: Do you have a gift for clear communication and a knack for creating interesting designs? CPC is now looking for the right person to serve as our next Communication Manager. This position is currently part time and would be well suited to someone who loves the Lord and already knows the CPC family well. For more information email Jerry Hammack at Jerry@cpceco.org  We can't wait to hear from you.

PRAYER   Allow us to pray for and with you by filling out the prayer request form.
