CPC's Conservation Mission Remains Active and Relevant!
Dear CPC Members and Friends,
Times are tough, and our thoughts and hearts go out to all who are on the front lines or struggling during this time. Like most nonprofits, CPC is adapting to changed circumstances, yet our key land protection and stewardship projects remain active and even essential in today's new realities.
If you are in a position to do so,
please help us keep our key projects moving forward this summer!
Project highlights are listed below.
NOTE TO DONORS:
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES)
Act
provides new incentives for donors
to contribute to their favorite charities this year, including a $300 above-the-line ($600 for couples) charitable income tax deduction for donations made in 2020. If you don’t itemize and take the standard deduction, this means
you can now give $300 to charity and get a full $300 tax break, in addition to the standard deduction.

Diakon Wilderness Center Conservation Easement
(175 acres, Cumberland Cty)
A leading provider of specialized youth services, the Diakon Wilderness Center is nestled in the South Mountain near Boiling Springs and bordered by the Appalachian Trail at Center Point Knob, the Alec Kennedy Shelter, and State Game Lands #305. Little Dogwood Run-headwaters to the Yellow Breeches-flows through the property. Part of the project aims to complete a forest management plan and a trail easement on a trail traversing the edge of the property and connecting to the AT.

Peters Mountain/Flemish Down Land Acquisition
(404 acres, Dauphin Cty)
Straddling the Appalachian Trail corridor at the Peter's Mountain Shelter, this parcel adjoins SGL #211 and DCNR's Joe Ibberson Conservation Area. It contains the old Victoria Trail, an 1800s wagon road traversing the ridge. This is CPC's second bargain sale project with landowner Flemish Down, a family committed to preserving Clark's Creek Valley for future generations.

Spangler Addition to Boyd Big Tree Conservation Area
(60 acres, Dauphin Cty)
This bargain sale acquisition will connect the 1025-acre Boyd Big Tree Conservation Area with a municipal park on Blue Mountain Parkway. While protecting this part of the ridge from future development, the project expands opportunities for outdoor recreation in the Harrisburg region. It will close in time for the 20th Anniversary of the establishment of "Boyd's Woods" this fall.

Amberson Easement at Tuscarora Trail and Historic Catholic Path
(92 acres, Franklin Cty)
CPC will acquire an easement on this parcel to protect and improve the historic Catholic Path, the Tuscarora Trail, and a critical buffer to the Tuscarora State Forest. The landowner seeks to demonstrate good conservation practices and to effectively steward Pennsylvania's woodlands.
Strickler Easement #2 outside Mercersburg, PA
(200 acres, Franklin Cty)
In 2019, CPC completed the first easement with the same landowner. The second will cover the neighboring, historic McFarland Farm--200 acres that feature the region's rich history, pastoral landscape, healthy soils, riparian buffers and coldwater streams. The property is bordered by Johnston Run.
Letort Spring Garden Preserve
(Cumberland Cty)
With a preserve management plan in process, CPC has developed a proposal for the first phase of improvements on its flagship preserve--restoring the 1881 historic bank barn now listed on the National Register, creating new trail connections and access, interpretation, and restoring native wetlands, meadows, and uplands.

Kittatinny Ridge Conservation Landscape Partnership
Together with 6 other land trusts and led by The Nature Conservancy, CPC is working to protect critical gaps within the designated Kittatinny Conservation Landscape through outreach, new funding opportunities, and conservation planning with landowners. The goals are to secure healthy forests, recreational opportunities, wildlife habitat, water resources, and climate resiliency.
