Quarterly News and Updates

April 2025

Spring reminds us that growth is persistent, resilient, and inevitable. Even in unpredictable conditions, new ideas take root, and progress continues. At CPH-NEW, we remain committed to advancing Total Worker Health®, through a foundation of evidence, collaboration, and care.

The path to healthier workplaces is not always smooth, but the solutions are clear: when we center knowledge, prioritize well-being, and empower workers, everyone thrives. This season, we continue our work alongside educators, healthcare professionals, and correctional leaders to create environments where health and safety are more than ideals—they are practices woven into the fabric of work itself.

✨ Here’s what’s blossoming at CPH-NEW this spring:

  • The six elementary schools implementing the Educator Well-being Program within the The Total Teacher Health project are making workplace changes to reduce educator stress caused by disruptive student behavior and work overload as well as fostering a supportive work climate.

  • The SHIFT team will present key findings on healthcare worker safety and health at the May EAWOP 2025 Conference in Prague. The team will report on the capacity building and impact of a participatory program for mental health care workers, and a TWH program for unions. This spring the project team will use Photovoice to engage mental health workers in evaluating the participatory program sustainability.

  • HITEC expansion continues with the formation of a correctional Healthcare Design Team and the first correction’s Educator Design Team.

  • The Outreach Core will host a research symposium in May for students to showcase their thesis work in occupational safety, health, and wellbeing. We are also working in partnership with the California Labor Lab and the national consortium of TWH Centers for Excellence and Affiliates describe available TWH professional training and education programs. Results will be presented at the International TWH Symposium to guide a discussion of future training priorities for TWH professionals.

Promoting Workplace Inclusion for Autistic Individuals Through Universal Design

Contributed by Sara Namazi, MS., PhD.

Despite their talent and willingness to work, many autistic adults face unnecessary barriers in the workplace—often due to rigid policies and environments that fail to accommodate neurodiverse needs. With only 21% of individuals with disabilities employed in 2022, it’s clear that traditional workplace structures aren’t working for everyone. But there’s a solution: Universal Design. By rethinking workplace accessibility—from flexible schedules to inclusive communication methods—employers can foster a culture where all employees thrive.
