This summer CPH-NEW staff gathered in-person to build community and brainstorm ways to integrate justice, equity, diversity and inclusion into the future of Total Worker Health^®work.

In the 2022-2023 school year the Total Teacher Health project implemented the Healthy Workplace Participatory Program for Educators (HWPP-E) in 2 Elementary schools in Connecticut. During this process 19 educators used the HWPP-E to develop interventions to improve educator well-being in their schools. These schools will continue with the project in the coming school year with 2 additional elementary schools being added.

A cohort of nine have graduated from the TWH Employer Crisis Preparedness course for Human Resources personnel! Stay tuned for dissemination of the online course this fall.

The SHIFT healthcare project is supporting a self-sustaining participatory TWH program in a mental healthcare work environment, with customization directed by the facility personnel themselves. The SHIFT project has developed a new manual for facilitating the Healthy Workplace Participatory Program for Unions and Worker Organizations (HWPP-U). This manual is a companion to the Train the Trainer currently being offered bi-monthly.

The Health Improvement Through Employee Control (HITEC) transitioned from NIOSH funding to primarily being supported directly through the State of Connecticut. The first two years of funding is coming to an end but has been renewed for another two years. HITEC investigators are actively collaborating with the CT Department of Correction as they assume a more active role in the governance of the program.

Management of Psychosocial Risk in the Workplace

Over 40 years of robust international scientific research provides compelling evidence that documents the negative impacts of work-related stressors. These impacts include workplace injuries, musculoskeletal disorders, poor mental health, and cardiovascular disease and mortality. Harvard and Stanford economists found that work stressors resulting from “the way workers are managed'' contributed to over 120,000 deaths annually and $180 billion in U.S. health care costs. Work stress contributes to over half of annual lost working days and an estimated US$150 billion in lost productive work time3. Ignoring these costs and their implications is no longer an option.
