CPH-NEW personnel were excited to deliver 17 presentations at the 3rd International Symposium to Advance Total Worker Health®. Dr. Laura Punnett, was honored with a TWH Founder's Award for her leadership in advancing TWH and ensuring that the voice of workers remain central in all program activities. The Society Total Worker Health was launched to create a collaborative space to advance TWH through knowledge and best practice sharing. Become a founding member today!


Our intervention research studies are actively advancing. In the total Teacher Health study, we are recruiting teachers for health and safety “design teams” in two school districts to implement an adapted Healthy Workplace Participatory Program (educator version). The Total Worker Health Employer Crisis Preparedness study kicked off a one-year coached community of practice pilot training program for Human Resources and other management professionals. The SHIFT II healthcare study opened registration for February classes for a new program “Building Total Worker Health® Leaders in Unions and Worker Organizations: Train the Trainer” CPH-NEW just concluded an education needs assessment study with multidisciplinary occupational safety and health professionals; the results will guide development of future TWH continuing professional education programs.

In December, CPH-NEW Co-Director, Bill Shaw, PhD, will be retiring. Please join us in thanking Bill for his tireless leadership not only for the Center but for also championing the advancement of Total Worker Health. We wish you all the best in your new adventures!


We are proud to announce that Jenn Cavallari, ScD, will be assuming the role of Center Co-Director in December! Jenn has been a long time member of the center and currently leads the Total Teacher Health project to reduce stress for educators. She has also played an instrumental role in our Outreach Core, helping to create our TWH for OHS Professionals continuing education course. Please join us in welcoming Jenn to her new role.

Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic: How Deficits in Safety Culture Failed Healthcare Workers

In the spring of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic swept the world and left in its wake a global healthcare emergency. By the fall of 2022, the U.S. had the highest cumulative COVID-19 deaths per capita among its peer nations.1 An unprecedented burden was placed on the physical and mental well-being of healthcare workers, who were working in novel, challenging, and potentially unsafe conditions. These included but were not limited to increased staffing shortages, workload, infection control protocols, and unprecedented safety policy uncertainties.2 Two years into the pandemic, we think it is of utmost importance to examine the impact of organizational actions during the pandemic to ensure employee safety. December 5, 2022, 10 A.M. EST, Community Health Training Center presents "Public Health: Past, Present and Future" In this training, participants will learn more in detail about the history of public health, where we are now, and where this field is heading in the future. Using case studies of how public health response has helped and hurt populations throughout time, the trainers will lead a conversation around how we can continue to push public health to center health and racial equity.  Register here.

CST, National Safety Council presents "SAFER Summit: A Virtual Summit on Lessons Learned from the Pandemic and How to Navigate the New Normal" This two day summit covers a variety of topics such as pandemic response, future of work, vaccines and remote work.
