During this pre-recorded special educational session, Dr. Phil Yanos, Professor, John Jay College of Criminal Justice at the City University of New York and his colleagues:
- Define stigma and share a brief review of context for stigma in mental illness,
- Review community attitudes and behaviors in the USA and in New York State, and
- Share examples of stigma from people with lived experience
In addition, Mr. Dan Bernstein, Mr. Omar James, and Ms. Yumiko Ikuta:
- Discuss how self-stigma impacts the recovery process,
- Describe recommendations to help to decrease stigma, and
- Facilitate a question and answer session
