CPI’s ACT Institute Releases Two New Online Modules and Updated Core and Role-Based Curricula
We’re pleased to announce the release of two important online training modules developed by the ACT Institute.

“Introduction to Specialty Roles” focuses on the essential roles and tasks that ACT team members perform in addition to their core responsibilities. Learners completing this course will:
  • Recognize that ACT is an evidence-based model providing person-centered, culturally sensitive, trauma informed care,
  • Identify the core responsibilities and tasks for each ACT team member’s role,
  • Recognize the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, which includes how role specialists provide services based on their specialty, cross train other team members, and provide generalist support, and
  • Recognize the ways in which Participants and their supports have been impacted by forms of societal inequality and inequity, such as racism, bias, and other forms of discrimination.
1.5 hours of continuing education credits for completion of this module are available to social workers, psychologists, licensed mental health counselors, and CASACs. 
“Community Safety for Assertive Community Treatment Teams” covers this most important topic by focusing on four overarching principles and applying these principles to preventing a crisis, safety in the office, and safety in the community. A new and helpful tool, the Safety and Wellness Action Plan (SWAP) is introduced and its use is illustrated. The four overarching principles are:
  • The importance of communication,
  • Anticipating challenges and planning ahead,
  • Considering yourself a guest, and
  • The impact of implicit and explicit bias.
Please note that on March 1, 2022, the ACT Institute launched a newly revised ACT Core and Role-Based Curricula to ensure ACT Teams receive the highest training support and resources. The ACT Core Curriculum now includes these two modules.

Any Providers who did not have the opportunity to complete the former versions of the ACT Core and Role-Based Curricula, as of February 28, 2022, have been auto-enrolled into the new ACT Core and/or Role-Based Curricula. Those who have completed portions of the previous requirements will receive the credit within the revised curricula. 

Regardless of completion status, ACT Institute encourages ALL ACT Providers to participate in completing the new modules, as they provide important resources for enriching the work of ACT in NYS.
