New Suicide Prevention Module is Now Available:
Telehealth with Suicidal Individuals
  • Telehealth is defined as providing treatment via video conferencing and/or phone contact
  • During the COVID-19 pandemic, utilization rates of telehealth services have doubled
  • However, data from a recent SAMHSA telehealth training indicates that over 50% of providers find it difficult to use telehealth with suicidal clients
  • This training is designed to address providers’ concerns and give them the evidence-based tools needed to work effectively with suicidal clients via telehealth 
 
Using animation, video demonstrations, and interactive exercises, this module provides clinicians guidance on evidence-based practices for screening, assessing, and managing suicide risk via telehealth. 
As a result of completing this module, learners will be able to:
  • Describe basic guidelines for initiating remote contact with suicidal clients
  • Identify adaptations for conducting remote suicide screening and risk assessment
  • Identify adaptations to your approach for co-developing safety plans and counseling on lethal means via telehealth
  • Recognize strategies for remote follow-up and monitoring of at-risk clients
  • Describe how to adapt your clinical approach to treating diverse populations via telehealth
  • Identify ways for clinicians to receive peer support for, and incorporate self-care into their approach
 
1 hour of continuing education credits for completion of this module are available to physicians, social workers, psychologists, licensed mental health counselors, and CASACs.
