Dr. Phyllis Raynor is a PhD prepared nurse scientist, psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, and certified advanced practice addictions nurse at the University of South Carolina. She works full-time as an assistant professor in the UofSC College of Nursing teaching in the graduate and undergraduate nursing program, while providing primary substance use treatment for clients with co-occurring mental health disorders part-time in an outpatient clinic.
She has 30 years of clinical experience as a registered nurse and brings extensive personal and professional experience and familiarity with the challenges faced by families affected by substance use disorders (SUD). She is very active at the state and national level in addressing efforts to improve access to substance use disorder treatment for families, particularly under resourced pregnant and postpartum people with substance use disorders. Her current NIH funded research uses community-based participatory approaches to leverage digital technology to support pregnant and parenting women seeking recovery from harmful substance use. Dr. Raynor is a Fellow in the International Society of Addictions Nurses, and an active member of Sigma Theta Tau and the American Nurses Associations. She has published several peer-reviewed publications to date and has also presented at numerous national and international conferences.
