6 April 2019!
In April 2019, the CPOA will celebrate 50 years of service to our fellow Chiefs, our Coast Guard Family, and our Communities. To mark this momentous occasion, we've decided to throw ourselves a party.  We've set up a Committee from the National Capital Region to ensure this is the best Gala you've ever attended.  We also have a website set up specifically for the event which will be periodically updated as we go along.  If you know of a company that wishes to sponsor a table or a vendor that may wish to include their promotional items in our "goodie bags", please have them contact us.

FEDVIP is Coming...
Are you ready?
On December 31, 2018, the Defense Health Agency's TRICARE Retiree Dental Program (TRDP) will end. However, as directed in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2017, retired uniformed service members and their families, who were eligible for TRDP, will have the opportunity to enroll in the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP). The end of TRDP is part of the historic reforms that began rolling out in the Military Health System on January 1, 2018. The implementation of the provisions under the 2017 NDAA and the beginning of new TRICARE support contracts is meant to improve health and enhance medical readiness for the uniformed services.

The first opportunity to enroll in FEDVIP will be during the next Federal Benefits Open Season, which runs from November 12 through December 10, 2018 (ET), with coverage effective January 1, 2019.

If you are currently enrolled in a TRDP plan, you will not be automatically enrolled in a FEDVIP plan for 2019. You must enroll during open season.

 Book of the Month
Foreword by Adm. James M. Loy, USCG Commandant, 1998-2002 The U.S. Coast Guard suffered the highest percentage of losses of any American armed force in World War I, yet until now the extent of the Coast Guard's involvement in that war remains little known to the public. The author, an experienced Coast Guardsmen himself, makes extensive use of such primary sources as personal journals and letters, cutter logs, reports of commanding officers, personnel records, and interviews to compile this historic, first-time-ever account. To bring the history to life Alex Larzelere draws on his extensive seagoing background and fills the book with action narratives that document the heroism of men like Lt. Fletcher Brown, Warrant Officer Midgett, and their crews, who went to the rescue of ships torpedoed by German U-boats.
