CONVENTION CANCELLED

Due to travel restrictions and social distancing concerns related to COVID-19, the Board of Directors made the decision to cancel the on-site convention scheduled for August in Seattle.

As our By-Laws require an annual meeting, we are looking towards utilizing video technology to allow us
to hold an abbreviated Convention "virtually" to complete necessary business.

More info will be announced in future communications.

Coast Guard Cooks Its

The United States Coast Guard Culinary Team beat 19 competitors to be named 2020 Joint Culinary Training Exercise Installation of the Year.

The competition included teams from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and international teams from France, Germany and Great Britain, with the Coast Guard earning 20 medals — five gold, six silver and nine bronze, according to a Facebook post. Chief Petty Officer Edward Fuchs, team manager, says training time helped the chefs prepare.

IRS Sets New May 5 Deadline To Get Info From Veterans Who Missed Coronavirus Checks

Treasury officials have set a  new May 5 deadline  for veterans with dependents who missed out on  coronavirus stimulus checks  earlier this month, warning that some of the money could be delayed until spring 2021 if they don’t act soon.

The deadline is the latest in a series of timelines and confusing public statements by the department and Internal Revenue Service leaders regarding when veterans will receive their stimulus checks, which can total $1,200 per individual and $500 per dependent.

  Book of the Month
Between August 1918 and March 1919 the Spanish influenza spread worldwide, claiming over 25 million lives, more people than those perished in the fighting of the First World War. It proved fatal to at least a half-million Americans. Yet, the Spanish flu pandemic is largely forgotten today.

In this vivid narrative, Alfred W. Crosby recounts the course of the pandemic during the panic-stricken months of 1918 and 1919, measures its impact on American society, and probes the curious loss of national memory of this cataclysmic event.

When Isolated At Home, Reconnect With Old
Service Friends
These unprecedented times are contributing to a higher level of anxiety, particularly among our Veteran population. The constant flow of often discouraging news, along with a reduced ability to mingle with others to keep spirits up, makes it difficult for some to maintain their morale.  TogetherWeServed , a military heritage community website and home to over 1.9 million U.S. Military Veterans, wants to help.

A secure virtual base for Veterans

During a Veteran’s military service, their base, ship or shore station is place to call home – a safe haven to share in the company of some of the finest men and women with a mission in common. Together We Served (TWS) aims to replicate that same spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood in its own “Virtual Base” website.

With its membership containing only active serving and Veterans, TWS provides a secure platform for all Veterans to engage with other Veterans on a level that is simply not possible in most social networking environments.
