County commissioners join CPO and hamlet members at Community Leaders Meeting

Dozens of volunteer representatives from CPOs and hamlets shared their perspectives with all five county commissioners at the Community Leaders Meeting on July 22.

The 2025 Community Leaders Meeting was the first for County Chair Craig Roberts, and Commissioners Diana Helm and Ben West.

They, along with fellow commissioners, Paul Savas and Martha Schrader, listened to comments from CPO and hamlet members to gain a deeper understanding of the communities served by the volunteer members of the CPOs and hamlets.

Public and Government Affairs Director Tonia Holowetzki served as emcee for the evening and facilitated the conversation, which was led by CPO and hamlet members.

County Administrator Gary Schmidt also attended the meeting along with members of the Committee for Community Involvement (CCI).

Reimbursement amount for 2025-26 remains at $350

To streamline the reimbursement process, PGA introduced a new quarterly reimbursement schedule. This enables PGA to manage the reimbursement budget more effectively and ensure that funds are spent efficiently.

CPOs can submit quarterly reimbursement requests for their operational expenses.

Examples of operational expenses

Post office box rental

Printing/copying (e.g., cost to print or copy postcard, brochure, etc.)

Equipment (e.g., laptop, projector, etc.)

Postage/mailing (e.g., cost for postage)

Supplies (e.g., paper, ink, etc.)

Marketing (e.g., cost of ad placement, photographer, etc.)

What to know about the upgraded reimbursement process

  • Reimbursement requests are only accepted from authorized individuals who have the chair's approval to make purchases for operational purposes
  • Reimbursement requests are to be submitted by the submission deadline dates listed below
  • Checks will be remitted within two weeks of these dates
  • Any requests received after these dates will be processed in the next quarter
  • Please submit your requests through the updated document submittal portal

Quarterly submission deadlines

1.   Quarter 1: October 2, 2025

2.   Quarter 2: January 2, 2026

3.   Quarter 3: April 2, 2026

4.   Quarter 4: June 30, 2026

Code Enforcement Supervisor Michael Barnes reaches out to CPOs

The county's code enforcement supervisor, Michael Barnes, made it a priority this year to personally reach out to CPOs to strengthen relationships and communication.

Barnes says his meetings with CPOs have been insightful and helpful in understanding their concerns, including unresolved code violations.

Barnes wants each CPO to know they have their own county code enforcement specialist who will be available to provide updates. To obtain contact information for their specialist, CPOs can email codeenforcement@clackamas.us

To submit a new complaint, please visit clackamas.us/codeenforcement

Share your input on code enforcement

The county's code enforcement team supports communities by investigating complaints, enforcing statutes and ordinances, and resolving violations related to public health, business, building standards, land use, and neighborhood livability.

Code Enforcement wants to hear from the community members it serves. Please share your views in this brief survey. After the survey, click below to watch the short video to learn more about how the code enforcement complaint process works.

Email, county contact changes for CPOs and hamlets

To strengthen efficiencies and communications between the county and CPOs and hamlets, Public and Government Affairs (PGA) recently made changes affecting staffing and email systems.

Maria Magallon is now the liaison for all CPOs and will be responding to all questions and requests for support.

Ed Nieto is now the liaison for hamlets and the Committee for Community Involvement (CCI).

PGA also recently created new and more accurate email addresses for CPOs, hamlets, and CCI.

CPOs

Please email all questions or requests for support to:

communityengagement@clackamas.us.

To ensure timely responses, please use a clear subject line identifying the CPO and the nature of the request. An example would be: Wildwood CPO - Bylaws Question.

Hamlets

Hamlets now have their own email address to contact hamlet liaison Ed Nieto.

The new email address will eliminate the risk of hamlet emails getting lost in the much larger CPO inbox.

Please email all questions or requests for support to hamlets@clackamas.us.

CCI

The email address for the Committee for Community Involvement (CCI) is

cci@clackamas.us. CPOs and hamlets are encouraged to use this email address to contact CCI.

Email is the most common form of communication between county staff and CPOs, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation as we seek ways to make it more efficient for us all.

Please only use these three email addresses for your respective group's needs rather than the personal email addresses of county staff, which can lead to delays and missed messages.

Bulletin Board updates, surveys & reminders

Transportation System Plan update

The project team is now meeting regularly and preparing for upcoming engagement activities, including virtual open houses, virtual public meetings for the advisory group, and regional public workshops in unincorporated Clackamas County.

Expect the public advisory committee applications to be live in a few weeks. CPO members are encouraged to apply. Please pass the word along to your neighbors!

Transportation projects need to be put in a long-term plan before they can be considered for funding and construction.

Together, we will create the transportation system we want in the future by identifying the projects in the Transportation System Plan update!

Survey - Improving safety for pedestrians and bicyclists on Welches Road between Hwy. 26 and Birdie Lane

Welches Road is a main road without sidewalks or shoulders. A multi-use path will be constructed between Hwy. 26 and Birdie Lane.

The design team is ready to narrow down costs and considerations for the path, including tree impacts and lighting, and is interested in any construction concerns you may have.

Share your feedback in the survey through Friday, September 5, 2025.

Fire danger reminders

It’s the time of year when things get really dry, even with the recent rain.

Please be diligent when connecting trailers to check all your chains before heading out. Dragging chains can produce sparks that lead to brush fires. Are you and your community prepared for wildfires and other disasters in our area?

Please check out Disaster Management's webpage to ensure you are ready!
