A Message From Our CPPA President........
Can you believe it's 2020?
I hope you have all had a wonderful holiday season and are getting the new year off to a quick and successful start.
CPPA has a great line up of events coming this year, starting off on January 28th with our annual Peake Awards dinner followed by the Winter Expo on the 29th at our brand-new venue, Laurel park racetrack... future home of the Preakness Stakes. CPPA and NERA are back together again and boasting a huge show for our members this year. We are very excited about the new venue and look forward to helping you get your sales off to the races! We have partnered with VAPPA once again for our NoVa showcase on March 24th in Tysons Corner, which has grown to be a booming End User friendly show for the DMV.
We have really focused on social events and networking opportunities over the past few years and things are no different this year. If you haven't come out for one of our events, you are truly missing out. Stay tuned to cppa.biz and keep an eye out for our emails so that you don't miss a beat in the region.
You are our most valued asset and CPPA would love to have your help. Please contact our Executive Director, Tiffany Kanak or myself to be added to our talented pool of volunteers. You have the talent we need to make CPPA the best regional association!
Here's to a phenomenal 2020!

2020 Philanthropy Committee for CPPA

Thanks to all the members who overwhelmingly voted to
support Platoon 22 ( www.platoon22.org) in 2020
The mission of Platoon 22 is to raise awareness about the suicide epidemic facing our veterans. For many veterans, returning from military service means difficulties transitioning. Access to services is essential in order to help returning vets recover from their combat experiences and reconnect with their lives. Platoon22 has partnered with Goodwill Industries to build a 20,000 square foot veterans center in Frederick County. This facility will offer first class services to our country's heroes who live across our region. Groundbreaking took place in November 2019 and the goal is to have the center open Veteran's Day this year.

The number one need for this effort is money to fund the center. We can help Platoon 22 in a couple of different ways. One, we can assist them with their golf tournament on May 18. They would like us to man 2 of the holes and provide a game and prizes. They would also love a commemorative insulated tumbler they can sell at the event to raise funds. Two, we can hold our own fundraising event with proceeds going to Platoon22. There are many ideas being discussed at this time. Please check out the Capital Campaign brochure here: https://platoon22.org/veterans-center/.

Thank you to those who have expressed an interest in being on the Philanthropy Committee. If you are interested in being involved, please reach out to Cheryl Hokanson cheryl@brandboosterspromos.com or 410-793-9476. Details for the first committee meeting will be coming soon.

Erie, PA  Custom Plastic Specialties, LLC (CPS/Keystone) is celebrating their sixth annual win in the PPAI Pyramid Award Competition for Supplier Excellence. This is the second year in a row that CPS/Keystone has been awarded the Supplier Star Gold Pyramid; a total of 11 suppliers were recognized with this highest achievement.

Since 1958, the PPAI Pyramid Awards have recognized and honored promotional products businesses and helped shine the spotlight on the collaborative business model unique to this industry. "This year's Pyramid Award winners represent the highest level of excellence in our industry" said Paul Bellantone, CAE, President and CEO at PPAI. "Our team at CPS/Keystone was thrilled to find out that we won the Gold Pyramid again for 2020. It is such a testament to the hard work of all our staff, and most importantly we all understand that it means we have met and exceeded the expectations of our customers," said Kippie Helzel, MAS, Sr. Vice President of Sales. "We will continue to do what it takes to do right by our customers, every day, and with every order, to assure that we are able to build on this great recognition," Helzel continued.

The Supplier Star Pyramid Winners are voted on by industry distributors in each respective PPAI sales volume category. CPS/Keystone was presented the Gold Pyramid Award in the category for suppliers with annual sales volume of $10,000,000 to $20,000,000.

Wesco Marketing named by Towel Specialties as 2019 Sales Reps of the Year
Baltimore, MD  - Towel Specialties, the parent company of Cobblestone Mills and Xpress Towels, announced Wesco Marketing as the recipient of the 2019 Sales Rep of the Year Award. Wesco Marketing is composed of industry-veteran sales reps Jeff and Shelley Stevens, Mark Fulwider, and Larry Willis. The team, based in Southern California, covers six states.

"Wesco consistently goes above and beyond what is expected. They contribute to our success with their commitment to making our towels and blankets one of the most sought-after products available," said Shawn Kanak, Vice President of Sales at Towel Specialties. "It is hard to choose the "best of the best" when everyone else is so good. Internally, we review the list of qualifying nominees and select the winners based on their overall contributions. In 2019, no team did it better than Wesco Marketing."

Towel Specialties also announced that Flanagan and Associates (Tom Flanagan, Rich Conroy and Matt Carter) received accolades as Sales Rep of the Year Runners Up. "Based in the southeast, the Flanagan team relentlessly pursues and achieves so many great partnerships. These awards serve as gratitude to our continued dedication to our partnership with our field reps," said Kanak.

Alissa Baker Joins HPG's Hub Pen, Beacon & Origaudio as Director of Key Accounts
Boston, MA  HUB Promotional Group(HPG) is pleased to announce Alissa Baker has joined the company as Director of Key accounts for Hub Pen, Beacon and Origaudio. She will work alongside long time Beacon and Hub rep Sharon Schiffelhuber handling key accounts and customer relationships. She will also support South East territories alongside of Mike Fleming with Hub and Mike Szymczak with Origaudio.

ASB Donates $2,100 to Support Shield616 and Local Service Members
Glenwood, MN  - American Solutions for Business recently donated a shield and helmet worth $2,100 to Shield616, an organization founded to provide protection to those who serve our communities.
Due to limited budgets of some departments, new gear is often only available through donations. Shield616 offers two different packages that are provided to officers and first responders. A full armor police package costs $2,100 and a full armor fire package costs $2,300.
"This donation of rifle-rated plates and carrier gives me peace of mind that I am better protected to enter an active shooter situation or any other situation involving the use or threatened use of a rifle. It will allow me to do my job of protecting innocent citizens better and more safely," explains Eric Thesing, Pope County Deputy Sheriff and recipient of the shield donated by American Solutions for Business. The connection is even more meaningful because Eric is also married to long-time ASB employee, Becky Thesing.
Thesing continues, "I am very great-full to ASB for their donation. Our current vests do not protect us from rifle rounds, and we are seeing more and more that active-shooter situations often involve high-powered rifles by the suspect. All Pope County deputies, Glenwood police department officers and Starbuck police department officers are now equipped with these vests thanks to the donations of local businesses like American Solutions for Business."
Area law enforcement service members met in early December to thank Shield616 and the local businesses who support the program.
"We're honored to participate in a cause like Shield616," says Justin Zavadil, ASB President. "Our law enforcement officers risk their lives every day to keep our community safe - it's imperative that we do everything we can to ensure their safety as well."

It may seem counter intuitive, but in 2020, email won't get it done.
Anyone who has ever worked in sales or been an entrepreneur in the B2B space has had this feeling before: You just got off the phone after a great sales call. The prospect seems excited, they're saying all the right things, you feel strong momentum, you finish your day still energized about this new possible opportunity and yet, somehow, the buyer doesn't call you back. They stop responding to your emails, and suddenly the opportunity is dead.

When a prospect goes silent or a hot sales lead turns cold, most sales people's first inclination is to email the prospect to check in and ask for next steps. Put it in writing, right? Plus, email makes it easy to follow up multiple times and gives you a paper trail to show your boss that you were trying. But all too often, those follow-up emails are also met with silence.       Read More
