Public Comment on EPA Drinking Water Regulations | The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking public comment on a proposed rule National Primary Drinking Water Regulations for Lead and Copper: Improvements (EPA-HW-OW-2022-0801-0036) which would “require water systems to replace lead service lines, remove the lead trigger level, reduce the lead action level to 0.010 mg/L, and strengthen tap sampling procedures, among other changes that would improve public health protection and simplify the rule relative to the 2021 Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR).”Additionally, improvements would be provided in the additional following areas: “corrosion control treatment, public education and consumer awareness, requirements for small systems, and sampling in schools and child care facilities.” Comments are due by February 5, 2024. |

Housing America’s Older Adults 2023, a new report released by the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies outlines the growing disconnect between the aging population and affordable housing. As the older US population rapidly grows, they find it more difficult to afford healthcare, housing, and other living expenses. Affordable housing is especially difficult to find for seniors because accessible housing is in short supply; fewer than 4 percent of US homes offered the three key features of accessible housing—single-floor living, no-step entries, and wide hallways and doorways. Long term and in-home care are also out of reach for low-income seniors. As a result, low-income older adults are one of the fastest growing homeless populations. | | |
Resource Guide on Energy Funds |
Since the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) was passed in 2022, it feels like information has come out on a daily basis telling us how to access funds. Over the past few months, a network of organizations from around North and South Carolina have been working together to get IRA funding information all in one place. Together, they built EnergyFundsForAll.org — a website toolkit for everyone from homeowners and renters to municipalities on how to access the funds.
The toolkit features handy one-sheeters and helpful guides, ensuring you make the most of the available funds. And here’s the best part: it’s regularly updated and available to all stakeholders eager to make a difference!
